Job summary
To support the Dispensary Manager, Pharmacy Manager & Responsible
Pharmacists the day to day running of the outpatient pharmacy.
Dispense prescription medicines to patients accurately, in accordance with
national and departmental policies/ procedures.
To carry out accuracy checking of dispensed medicines.
To supervise pharmacy technicians, pharmacy dispensers, pharmacy
assistants and other pharmacy staff as identified.
To act as a role model, mentor and trainer to other members of staff.
Take part in the appropriate management of medicines stock and audits.
Undertake over the counter sales of pharmacy medicines under the
supervision of the responsible pharmacist.
Provide specialist counselling on medicines to patients at the outpatient
pharmacy counter as appropriate.
To provide counselling and appropriate sale of over the counter
medications in line with pharmacy SOPs.
Maintain accurate Controlled Drug records in accordance with procedures, and take responsibility for resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner
Main duties of the job
Knowledge of pharmacy dispensary
workflow in a hospital setting
Knowledge of dispensing handling
and counselling of chemotherapy
and cytotoxic
medicines.
Responsible for working within Pharmacy Technician code of ethics, maintaining
competence, CPD and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
(GPhC).

Job responsibilities
The Accuracy Checking Technician will work as required by the Dispensary Manager, Pharmacy Manager and Responsible Pharmacist in the day to day running of the pharmacy dispensary and outpatient counters, including rotas, prioritizing workflow, resolving queries, ensuring that all work is processed efficiently and in the correct order according to schedules.
To maintain Accredited Accuracy Checking Technician status and perform the final accuracy check of prescriptions dispensed by other pharmacy staff under the guidance of the Responsible Pharmacist.
Supervise other staff, ensuring that policies and procedures are strictly adhered to, and dealing with any deviation appropriately. To label and dispense medications when required by the Pharmacy Manager, Dispensary Manager or Responsible Pharmacist, ensuring compliance with all procedures, ready to receive a final accuracy check by a pharmacist or another Accredited Accuracy Checking Technician to meet business needs Oversee the rotation and maintenance of all medicine stocks and sundry items, to ensure value for money and reduced wastage.
Participate in the monitoring and documentation of drug storage including temperature checks of fridges as well as supervising assistants and colleagues according to the policy.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing e.g good telephone manner, excellent face to face communicator Competent patient counselling skills
Keyboard and data handling skills (Internet usage and MS Package competency Word, Excel & Powerpoint)
Qualifications:NVQ 3 / BTEC Diploma in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
