Job summary

As a Staff Nurse on the Oncology Ward, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that delivers a high standard of care to patients undergoing medical treatment. You will be responsible for the assessment of patients care needs and for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.The administration of SACT, toxicity management and palliative care provision are key elements as an Oncology Staff Nurse.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high quality physical and psychological Care with Compassion
  • Participate in the delivery of a consistent, safe service in all aspects of the patient journey whilst demonstrating a culture of customer service.
  • Manage care of allocated patients.
  • Demonstrate professional awareness and accountability.
  • Maintain requirements to ensure success in the Revalidation process.
  • Act as a Link Nurse in a designated area reporting to and from meetings / training updates.
  • Recognise the needs for DOLs assessments, mental capacity assessment and simple and complex safeguarding referrals and highlight any concerns
  • Liaise with the Support Services to ensure all non-clinical needs are met including the cultural, sexual, religious, and any other special needs of the patients.
  • Administer systemic anti-cancer therapy safely in accordance with local SACT quality policy.
  • Manage toxicities of systemic anti-cancer treatment and escalate accordingly in terms of neutropenic sepsis, tumour lysis syndrome and or metastatic spinal chord compression.
  • Caring for patients on radioactive iodine treatment.
  • Undertake clinical duties in any area that is reasonably requested ensuring that you practice within your professional competencies and abilities.
