Bupa Cromwell Hospital - SW5 0TU (5 mins walk from Earls Court underground or 7 mins walk from Gloucester Road underground.)
£45,500- £53,583 per annum (inclusive of annual £5,000 SFA allowance)

We have 5 operating suites catering for Cardiac, Orthopaedics, ENT and Ophthalmic, Plastics, General/Vascular, Urology and Gynaecology. We work with surgeons who are the best in their specialities carrying out simple to the more complex surgeries.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team, taking on the role of Surgical First Assistant. You will provide continuous competent and dedicated assistance under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon throughout the procedure and be responsible for the management of the equipment, instrumentation, and standards within the designated specialty and the role.
To act as a scrub nurse when SFA role if not required.
Assist in the positioning and preparation of a patient as directed by the surgical team and ensure that any specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the laboratory.
Control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures and asepsis.
Assist in the management of haemostasis.
Identify key issues related to tissue handling and its impact on tissue viability and healing.
Demonstrate the skilled ability and safe practice of:
Retracting tissue and organs
Handling tissues and organs
Removing haemostats
Using suction equipment
Indirect application of diathermy
Application of dressings/stoma appliances
Camera holding
Skin preparation prior to surgery
Draping the patient prior to surgery
Performing superficial skin closure and application of skin sutures and staples as directed by surgeon.

Assist the department in the Personal Development Plans of various members of staff.
Provide assistance in clinical/ operative procedures, both anaesthetics and surgery.
Assist in the management of haemostasis.
Identify key issues related to tissue handling and its impact on tissue viability and healing.
Demonstrate the skilled ability and safe practice of:

To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.
