You are experienced in acute nursing care, and oncology You are experienced working in an acute hospital setting in a Senior Registered Nursepost or equivalent You are experienced in customer care, including interacting with challenging customersand situations You are Experienced in rostering clinical teams to provide safe effective clinical care inline with labour guidelines You are experienced in mentoring and developing clinical staff to provide exceptionalpatient care.WHAT DO YOU DO?Specialist Clinical Leadership: Lead the delivery of safe and effective care to oncology patients, including those undergoingchemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, radiotherapy, and palliative care. Ensure adherence to national oncology guidelines (e.g., UKONS, NICE), protocols, andtreatment pathways. Maintain personal clinical competencies and act as an expert resource and role model inoncology nursing practice. Coordinate safe administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT), ensuring all staffinvolved are appropriately trained and competent.Quality, Governance, and Patient Safety: Oversee compliance with all regulatory, professional, and organisational standards, includingthose from CQC, HIS, HIW, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Conduct and support clinical audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and RootCause Analyses (RCAs). Lead on infection prevention and control, medicine management, and safeguarding withinthe oncology department. Ensure oncology services comply with local and national clinical governance frameworks,including management of chemotherapy-related adverse events and oncologicalemergencies (e.g., neutropenic sepsis).Team Leadership and Staff Development: Supervise and support the oncology nursing team, ensuring safe staffing levels, appropriateskill mix, and high performance. Provide clinical supervision, coaching, and mentorship for nurses and support staff,promoting ongoing professional development. Develop and maintain a culture of learning and excellence, supporting revalidation,mandatory training, and specialist oncology training (e.g., SACT passports, cytotoxic safety). Support workforce planning, rota coordination, and succession planning in collaborationwith the DOCS/CSM.Service Development and Operational Efficiency: Contribute to strategic planning and development of oncology services, supportinginnovations in treatment, patient pathways, and digital health. Ensure the department runs efficiently, managing resources effectively, including staff,equipment, and clinical consumables. Work with consultants, pharmacy, and external partners to streamline services and enhancethe patient experience. Lead on the implementation of service improvement initiatives aligned with local andnational cancer care targets.Patient-Centred Care and Experience: Promote a compassionate and personalised approach to care, respecting the physical,emotional, and psychosocial needs of cancer patients and their families. Act as a point of escalation for patient complaints, concerns, and complex case discussions,ensuring timely resolution and learning. Monitor patient feedback and quality indicators (e.g., patient satisfaction, treatment delays,complications) and use outcomes to inform improvements.Collaborative Working and Representation: Build strong relationships with oncology consultants, pharmacists, palliative care teams, andallied health professionals to deliver coordinated care. Represent the oncology service at hospital meetings, cancer board reviews, andmultidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions. Support departmental and hospital-wide initiatives, deputising for senior leaders as requiredand contributing to hospital on-call rotas.WHAT DO YOU HAVE?Essential: Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration. Specialist experience in oncology nursing, including SACT administration. Recognised qualification in oncology nursing or cancer care (e.g. UKONS SACT Passport,chemotherapy competency). Strong leadership and people management experience. Excellent clinical decision-making, communication, and coordination skills. Working knowledge of clinical governance, cancer pathways, and patient safety principles.Desirable: Advanced practice or non-medical prescribing qualification (V300). Experience managing oncology services in a senior clinical role. Leadership or management qualification (e.g. ILM, PGCert, MBA). Knowledge of research, clinical trials, and innovative cancer therapies. Familiarity with national cancer strategies, waiting time targets, and audit requirements(e.g., COSD, NCDA).WHAT SORT OF PERSON ARE YOU?
