We have an opportunity for a Pharmacy Lead to join their team of staff in the Pharmacy Department.
This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Degree in Pharmacy M Pharm or B Pharm or BSc. (Pharmacy) on the General Pharmaceutical Council register as a Pharmacist
- At least 2 years UK hospital experience within a hospital pharmacy department. Experience of managing a team & mentoring. Experience of managing a budget.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, including risk management. Results driven, possessing a proven track record of delivering against targets.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of General Pharmaceutical Council Codes of Professional Conduct, Ethics and Performance and their implications for practice.
- Knowledge of the Care Standards Act and Care and Quality Commission Requirements
Main duties of the job
Duties of this role include:
- Responsible for the optimal and safe use of medicines to all patients receiving SACT medication
- Ensure that all prescribing is on the CHG electronic software
- Request new protocols in a timely manner
- To influence and promote evidence based medicine and nationally published best practice for this patient group
- Provide expert advice to support the management, prescribing, clinical use and procurement of medication prescribed & administered within an oncology facility
- Motivate and inspire pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to adopt ownership of responsibility for medicine management services within an oncology facility.
- Member of the Hospital multidisciplinary oncology team
- Support the development and local implementation of corporate & hospital prescribing guidelines, and new oncology policies
- Provide an educational resource for the hospital to staff and patients with respect to medicines prescribed and administered in oncology facilities

Portfolio Purpose:
- To provide local hospital leadership with respect to medicines for patients receiving SACT medication

Specific portfolio knowledge, skills and qualifications:
- A pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Complete the CHG SACT pharmacists competencies
- Regularly providing pharmaceutical expertise to oncology patients
Key Performance Indicators:
- Attendance at patient multidisciplinary team review meetings
- Undertake twice weekly (as a minimum) oncology patient planning meetings
- Provide all new SACT patients with a pharmacy led pre-assessment clinic appointment
- Develops & monitors the procurement and dispensing of all medication for the treatment of SACT patients to ensure minimal expenditure
- Ensures that there is always access to a pharmacist for information queries relating to medicines for oncology patients from the multidisciplinary team
- Reviews and amends medication stock requirements on a regular basis
- Proactively manages the introduction of new medication protocols in partnership with the corporate e-prescribing lead pharmacist
