We have an opportunity for a Clinical Leadto join their team of staff in theInpatientsdepartment.

This is a full timerole for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

  • The purpose of the Clinical Lead role is to clinically support the department to promote and ensure excellent patient care,
  • The Clinical Lead takes responsibility to lead the department under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services (DOCS) (small & medium hospitals) or Clinical Services Manager(CSM) (large & flagship hospitals).
  • Responsible for the deployment, supervision and mentoring of staff within the clinical area supporting the hospital management team in providing clinical leadership.

Responsibility for the daily management and daily running of the department, with support from the DOCS/CSM, ensuring safe provision of staffing that meets activity by workforce planning, monthly rostering and daily review.

Manage duty rota/annual leave and study leave, ensuring that at all times there is adequate clinical staff cover for area of responsibility and appropriate skill mix and appropriate competency required.

Responsible for reporting mandatory outcome occurrences to regulators (CQC, HIW, HIS).

Participate actively as a member of the Hospital Resuscitation Team.

Attend and participate in unit meetings.

Provide a supportive environment for junior team members and mentor and participate in their training and development.

Assist in the provision of a unit environment conducive to learning and participate in mentorship of students.

To deal with any verbal or written complaints in a timely manner, taking action as required addressing any deficiencies highlighted and escalate as required.

To manage 3rd party service providers where appropriate.

To take an active role in supporting the implementation of national initiatives locally, providing feedback and information proactively or as requested.

Maintenance of professional, cost-effective service including financial management and business planning.

To maintain written records and legal documents to required levels and accepted practice.

Working alongside the DOCS/CSM to ensure within the department staff identify, plan, implement and evaluate the care/service, ensuring efficient service is maintained.

Supervise the professional work of nursing staff within the department allocating work effectively considering skill mix, competency and development of staff whilst considering patients requirements.

Act as a positive role model to colleagues.

Commitment to ensuring quality services are delivered to both internal & external stakeholders through continuous improvement activities.

Undertake departmental risk assessments, maintain plans for minimising incidents, and report appropriately. Responsible for undertaking Root Cause Analysis RCA to identify issues, causes and subsequent remedial actions.

To ensure completion and compliance with clinical and commercial audit cycle including but not limited to the requirements of internal audit and the departments controlled Risk Self-Assessment.

Manage complaints and take corrective actions as appropriate, supporting the DOCS/CSM with any investigations needed relating to complaints.

Maximise Efficiency and Business Growth

Manage an effective staff resource plan to provide cost effective labour, covering staff skills ratios, use of Bank and agency workers, and external recruitment.

Support departmental/ hospital marketing activities and participate in promotional activities as appropriate e.g. lectures, presentations, clinical trials.
