Main duties of the job

Duties of this role include:

  • To provide pharmaceutical expertise and input into the care of the patients within a CHG hospital, supporting the pharmacy department to deliver an excellent medicine management service to all customers. To supervise the procurement, preparation, dispensing and distribution of medicines, whilst supervising junior staff members in the delivery of the medicine management service. To assume responsibility for clinical service as identified.
  • To facilitate the daily running of the pharmacy department, providing a safe and effective medicines management service to all patients, staff, consultants and customers.

About this role: To provide pharmaceutical expertise and input into the care of the patients within a Circle Health Group hospital, supporting the pharmacy department to deliver an excellent medicine management service to all customers. To supervise the procurement, preparation, dispensing and distribution of medicines, whilst supervising junior staff members in the delivery of the medicine management service. To assume responsibility for clinical service as identified. Responsibilities: Support the team to deliver care that helps improve the health of the individual and wider community. Support the team in demonstrating compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity. Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical/technical knowledge / skill, and expertise. Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient. Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients, demonstrate courage to speak up when there are concerns about care. Demonstrate commitment to improving care and the patient experience. To facilitate the daily running of the pharmacy department, providing a safe and effective medicines management service to all patients, staff, consultants and customers. Provide clinical input with respect to medicines to all patients. Ensure accurate and timely charging. Ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory, professional and best practice frameworks. Be a proactive member of the Hospitals multidisciplinary team. Commitment to ensuring quality services are delivered to both internal & external stakeholders through continuous improvement activities. Governance Maintain professional standards in accordance with the General Pharmaceutical Council Codes of Professional Conduct, Ethics and Performance. Accountable to the Pharmacy Manager for procurement, distribution and dispensing. Provide a medicines information service to consultants, staff, patients and carers. Ensure compliance with standards in respect of all legislative requirements (including but not limited to Medicines Act 1968, Health Act 2005, CQC, DSE, Fire, COSHH, BLS, Manual Handling, Safeguarding Children, Information Security, and Infection Control). Assist with the management of complaints and take corrective actions as appropriate. Maintain patient and business confidentiality at all times. Carry out duties in accordance with all Health & safety legislation, guidance and procedures thus ensuring that they do not, by any act or omission on their part, create a threat to the health and safety of any other person. Participate in any audit process & review as required. Maximise Efficiency and Business Growth Maintain stock control and the secure storage of pharmaceutical supplies within the clinical areas of responsibility & ensure that stock levels are managed effectively. Ensure the correct billing of patients. Assist in the identification of commercial opportunities to improve the profitability of the department. Customer Help to promote a culture of customer service throughout the hospital, and identify areas for improvement as appropriate. Maintain relationships with local health care services.
