Theatre Practitioner

This is a full-time role at 37.5 hours per week. Flexible hours to meet the needs of the business. Generally across Monday to Friday between the hours of 8-19, with some Saturdays

Main duties of the job

Monitor and maintain high-quality nursing/ODP care in accordance with prescribed standards.

Provide personalized nursing/ODP care based on guidance from the Professional Development Department and senior nursing staff.

Offer appropriate counselling to patients, their families, and nursing/ODP staff.

Coordinate with colleagues and community staff to ensure seamless clinical practice.

Act as a member of the theatre team in the role of theatre/anaesthetic/recovery.

Assist surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing/ODP colleagues as needed.

Participate in the surgical scrub team, either as a scrub or circulating practitioner (Theatre nurse/ODP).

Collaborate with departmental staff to ensure correct patient positioning during procedures.

Ensure prompt collection and dispatch of specimens with appropriate staff.

Check, witness, and administer controlled drugs.

Assist in the transfer of patients to and from the operating department.

Contribute to the pre/peri/post anaesthetic/operative care of patients.

Inform the Team Leader/Sister/Charge Nurse/ODP's of any proposed changes in operating lists.

Deliver nursing care at the highest standards, following Trust Policies, Practice, and Clinical Guidelines. This includes understanding infection control, hygiene, and individual patient needs.

Demonstrate proficiency in the safe and effective use of equipment.

  • 12 Months experience in a theatre setting is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration

Desirable

  • Ideally competent across at least two of scrub, anaesthetics or recovery, or willing to expand practice with training.
