About this role:
Responsible for day to day management of the Hospital Ward, and its staff. Providing clinical leadership in an effective and efficient management
of ward resources, driving clinical excellence in all aspect of care received by patients. Working to maintain and enhance the customer service and
satisfaction of service users. Responsible for leading and supporting the nursing team to meet all aspects of the clinical governance agenda.
Responsibilities:
Lead the team to deliver care that helps improve the health of the individual and wider community.
Lead the team in demonstrating compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.
Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical/technical knowledge / skill, and expertise.
Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient.
Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients, demonstrate courage to speak up when there are concerns about care.
Demonstrate commitment to improving care and the patient experience.
Conduct yourself professionally within the standard and framework provided by the NMC Code of professional Conduct.
Maintenance of professional, cost-effective nursing service including financial management and business planning.
Achievement of labour management target, nursing costs KPI and weekly completion of staff utilisation spreadsheets.
Working towards agreed objectives and demonstrating Circle Health Group behaviours at all time.
To ensure the correct provision of individualised patient care is met.
To deal with any verbal or written complaints in a timely manner, taking action as required addressing any deficiencies highlighted.
Effective interaction with consultants, patients and relatives in a sensitively manner.
To ensure within the ward area that staff identify, plan, implement and evaluate the care/service.
Manage duty rota/annual leave and study leave to ensure that at all times there is adequate nursing cover and appropriate skill mix.
Establish excellent standards of individual patient care.
Act as a change agent to achieve a customer focused service.
Ensure systems and processes are in place that drive the clinical governance agenda.
Be a supportive member of the hospital, by actively supporting agreed developments within the Hospital and the organisation.
Support the achievement of local, national and organisational standards.
Effectively provide mentorship and coaching to all members of staff, existing and newly recruited - ensuring that newly qualified employees are
provided with a period of preceptorship as per NMC guidelines, and to guide them through their orientation and development.
Promote professionalism and team working at all times. Leading by example with regard to personal conduct and practice standards.
Monitoring patient satisfaction by regularly visiting ward and outpatients departments, taking corrective action where needed, should patient
care not be inline with Circle Health Group standards.
Encourage an environment and culture that promotes harmonious working relationships and values the individual contribution.
Support the implementation and development of specialised roles within nursing e.g. Link nurses and speciality based teams.
Liaise effectively across the MDT.
Implement and evaluate evidence based practice, ensure that clinical practice is evidence based.
Participate in the planning of off duty rotas considering skill mix, patient dependency, and key performance indicators.
Participate in the development of local policies and procedures.
Responsible for reporting mandatory outcome occurrences to CQC.
Lead the clinical audit programme within the ward, ensuring on-going improvement.
Ensure all adverse occurrences and clinical incidents are reported correctly and action plans are developed and completed taking relevant
action to drive improvements.
Promote open communication within the nursing team, by participate in and where appropriate leading staff meetings.
Demonstrate compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.
Ensure effective communication channels are maintained across all areas of the team, and supporting departments.
Ensure robust risk assessment processes are in place.
Maintain systems that promote effective information governance.
Responsible for monitoring patient satisfaction, through regular inpatient department visits.
Where appropriate, to be a Health and Safety committee member.
Commitment to ensuring quality services are delivered to both internal & external stakeholders through continuous improvement activities.
Compliance with Circle Health Group Policies and Procedures relevant to this role, ensuring you are fully aware of your responsibilities within
these policies.
Demonstrate awareness of regulatory requirements, taking appropriate action to ensure these requirements are implemented and adhered
to.
Ensure compliance with all Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures understanding your role in the prevention of infection
in patients and staff.
To be aware of your responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. To ensure you are aware of your
responsibilities, supporting policies and undertake the appropriate level of training for your role.
Undertaking specific role related competencies and learning, ensuring 100% compliance of all relevant mandatory training within Learning
Space timescales.
Maintain knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act. Ensuring appropriate measures are taken in respect of Health and Safety for patients,
relatives, visitors, hospital staff and contractors.
Leadership and People Management
Ensure that the highest standards of clinical quality management is maintained to promote and safeguard the wellbeing and interests of
patients, employees and visitors.
Daily visible leadership and management of the department by managing direct reports in line with HR Policies and Procedures at all times,
including performance management, and bi-annual appraisals recruitment and absence management, health and safety.
To ensure within the department staff identify, plan, implement and evaluate the care/service, ensuring efficient service is maintained.
To contribute to the development of a dynamic departmental business plan which supports the hospital and corporate strategy, which is
integral to departmental and inter departmental service delivery.
To review departmental accounts each month with the Director of Clinical Services, understand why variances have occurred and develop an
action plan to improve where necessary.
To assist with the successful management to department budget and achievement set EBITDA directly under direction of Director of Clinical
Services.
Achievement of set objectives as outlined by Director of Clinical Services and support achievement of Corporate objectives.
Clear direction and leadership on professional and clinical matters with regard to personal conduct and practice standards whilst role
modelling Circle Health Group behaviours and customer care standards consistently.
Maintain regulator standards at all times, undertake departmental risk assessments, maintain plans for minimising incidents, and report
appropriately. Responsible for undertaking Root Cause Analysis RCA to identify issues, causes and subsequent remedial actions.
To ensure completion and compliance with clinical and commercial audit cycle including but not limited to the requirements of internal audit
and the departments controlled Risk Self-Assessment.
Participate in corporate initiatives within the site as necessary.
Ensure supplies and equipment are ordered / maintained and used efficiently to eliminate wasteful practices and unnecessary expense with
correct charging of same.
Manage duty rota/annual leave and study leave, ensuring that at all times there is adequate clinical staff cover for area of responsibility and
appropriate skill mix and appropriate competency required.
Ensuring 100% compliance of staff competence and relevant mandatory training within Learning Space timescales, for your direct reports.
