Job summary
As an Experienced Nurse, you will provide high-quality clinical care to patients with complex mental health needs within an acute hospital setting, including a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
You will take responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and reviewing patient care, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure treatment is safe, effective, and recovery-focused.
The role includes managing risk, responding to incidents, and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment at all times. You will also support the leadership of the ward, guiding and mentoring junior staff, and ensuring that standards of care, documentation, and communication are consistently met.
You will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team, using your clinical judgement, experience, and knowledge of mental health legislation to support patient outcomes.
Main duties of the job

Deliver safe, effective nursing care to patients with complex mental health needs

Carry out assessments, develop care plans, and review patient progress

Administer and manage medication in line with clinical guidance

Identify, assess, and manage risk to maintain a safe environment

Support and lead ward staff, providing guidance, supervision, and mentorship

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated care

Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and documentation

Respond to incidents, emergencies, and changes in patient presentation

Promote patient engagement, recovery, and independence

Ensure high standards of handover and communication across shifts

Support compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Contribute to maintaining a structured, safe, and therapeutic ward environment
