Job summary

We have an exciting vacancy available for an experienced and motivated physiotherapist with proven clinical and leadership skills to join the Physiotherapy team at the RHN.

This post is primarily based in the Haberdashers House (Young Adults Services) in the Continuing Care Services (CCS) which provides specialist and complex disability management for those patients/residents with learning disability (LD) and/or acquired brain injury. The post holder will also provide LD specific advice in other areas of the hospital. The post holder will work within a strong interdisciplinary team, providing patient centred specialist assessment and treatment. The post holder will also apply excellent leadership to both the local physiotherapy team and in a broader capacity within the multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Key Responsibilities (see JD for full list)

  • Undertake this leadership role alongside the MDT, conducting a regular evaluation of the physiotherapy service in the designated clinical area, evaluating the physiotherapy provision and optimising effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of service users with complex disability (including learning disabilities and neuro-disabilities), using advanced clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques, interpreting and analysing clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnoses and prognoses in order to recommend the best course of intervention.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake the leadership role, alongside the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist, in planning and co-ordinating the delivery of the physiotherapy service in the designated clinical area on a day-to-day basis and the Learning Disability service across the hospital.
  • To provide highly skilled physiotherapy assessment, education, advice and treatment to service users with learning disabilities and/or complex neuro-disabilities in the CCS and the wider RHN services.
  • To provide supervisory support for registered Physiotherapists and physiotherapy support staff working in CCS and the wider Physiotherapy department where applicable.
  • To demonstrate effective MDT working as part of the CCS professionals team, to uphold patient values and goals.
  • To strive to improve efficiency and effectiveness in all areas of your work; implementing evidence informed practice and engaging in service development, quality improvement and governance projects to enhance the Physiotherapy and CCS service.
  • To ensure professionalism and excellent communication with staff, service users andrelatives in routine and complex circumstances, including holding difficult conversations.
  • To demonstrate an awareness of RHNs values and CCS specific service provision and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
