We require experienced, enthusiastic, caring and empathetic Nurses and Midwives.
We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic Nurses and Midwives to work within our new remote patient support line and specialist placement team.
We are looking for practitioners who can deliver safe and effective care over the telephone to patients who need support and advice after an abortion. The service also supports the smooth and timely referral and placement of patients who need specialist support and treatment from the NHS/outside provider/s.
This is a 24 hour, 365
days a year service, therefore this role includes weekend working, nights and evenings. The working hours are 8am - 8.00pm and 8pm - 8.00am. Please be aware this role is
predominantly working from home; however, travel is required to our sites
nationally on occasions.
There will be enhanced payments for out of hours shifts.
You will need to be able to fulfil an integral role within our multidisciplinary team delivering a confidential abortion service. It is important you are an autonomous confident practitioner as the service is nursing and midwifery led, therefore you will be making clinical decisions and managing patients care regularly, with minimal medical input.

Main duties of the job
Pro-Choice is a must.
Assessing and providing patients with post abortion and sexual health
information over the phone, 24/7, 365 days a year. Supporting the smooth and timely referral
and placement ofpatients who need specialist support and treatment from the
NHS/outside provider/s. The post holder will ensure they deliver a
quality, effective, efficient and safe service, in conjunction with NUPAS
policies and procedures, NMC guidelines for professional practise, the abortion
care act 1967 and any other relevant local, national and clinical guidance.
Undertake other
work to support the organisation as directed. This could include report
writing, audit, safeguarding administration, other referrals and follow up.

Essential
- Registered nurse or registered midwife
- Up to date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health/TOP/Gynaecological service.
Desirable
- Recognised qualification in Independent/Supplementary Prescribing.
- Ultrasound scanning experience in first and second stage trimester.
- Training in contraception
- Experience providing clinical advice over the phone/remotely to patients.

- To provide remote clinical support to patients who are calling the 24-hour patient support line
- To effectively triage post abortion aftercare calls, giving sound, safe and quality advice to a broad patient base with varying questions and concerns.
- Using clinical judgment and verbal skills to identify when a patient is deteriorating or needs prompt emergency care and escalating/referring appropriately.
- Booking patients into NUPAS post treatment appointments for further assessment, undertaking assessment to ensure shared decision-making
- approaches are utilised, and informed consent is therefore gained.
- Identify and escalate any risk or safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and actively seek to reduce or eliminate those concerns identified in a positive manner.
- To embrace safeguarding mechanisms and support staff, patients and supporters at times when safeguarding principles need to be applied.
- Ensuring the patients care is documented clearly, factually, and timely on Electronic Patient Records.
- Effective time management skills, considering priority and timing of patient contact required. Referral to the safeguarding team if concerns arise and when needed.
- Refer patients into NUPAS counselling service if needed.
- Sign posting and supporting patient to access other relevant services if needed and when relevant.
- Give support, guidance and facilitate a smooth, timely and efficient service for patient requiring specialist placement.
- Using communication skills and an empathetic approach when talking to patients and ensuring you can deliver information in a way that they understand.
- Ensuring all relevant medical information, scan reports, blood results, GP correspondence and other results are available/requested for outside referral or review by NUPAS medical team.
- Checking details on patient notes and alerting Doctor/surgeon/anaesthetist to any significant conditions.
- Screening patient notes to ensure they need referral and liaising with NUPAS medical team to accommodate patients who can be treated safely within our service with adjustment/s or extra support.
