Job summary

Alliance Psychological Services is an independent provider of counselling and psychological therapy services based in the Tees Valley area and working across the North-East region. We are working in partnership with Teesside Mind to deliver the Impact on Teesside service.

We are currently recruiting several Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) trainees to start the course at Teesside University in January 2026 working in our Impact on Teesside NHS Talking Therapies service. Successful candidates will be required to start in the role prior to the start of the training course to allow time to learn more about the Impact service and complete an induction period. Successful applicants will complete the Psychological Wellbeing Practice (UPCAPD or PGCert) course during their first year within the post.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide a range of evidence based low intensity psychological interventions within the framework of the national NHS England Talking Therapies programme as part of the Impact on Teesside NHS Talking Therapies service.

They will also work within Impact's duty team where they will offer assessment and support to patients referred into the service.

The postholder will work as part of the Impact team in clinical practice for a minimum of 3 days across the week whilst attending the PWP training programme.

This position may require flexible hours between 8am until 8pm weekdays.

Successful applicants will be employed by Alliance Psychological Services.

This post requires face-to-face work across the Teesside locality including attendance in person at Teesside University.

To work as a member of the Impact on Teesside Talking Therapies team

  • To create and maintain effective working relationships within the wider Impact team and elsewhere.

  • To offer advice and support to other members of the wider Primary Care Team, including GPs and other Health Professionals, on mental health issues, and in relation to appropriate referral pathways for patients with mental health needs.

  • To liaise effectively with Secondary Care and voluntary sector organisations and services.

  • To attend meetings and provide reports as required.

  • To assist in the development and promotion of the service.

To provide a range of low intensity CBT interventions

  • To provide assessment, including risk assessment, of clients referred to Impact on Teesside, involving making decisions around treatment/support pathways, as well as supporting with any signposting and onward referrals where clients may require other services, including statutory and voluntary agencies.

  • To select and deliver a range of low intensity CBT interventions in collaboration with the client via a range of modalities including telephone, face to face and group work.

  • To work within an appropriate time framework.

  • To maintain clients confidentiality within agreed guidelines.

To undertake the required training programme

  • To attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post. NB: Satisfactory completion of the training programme is a condition of continued employment.

  • To attend university-based supervision in relation to course work to meet the required standards.

To provide a professional and ethical service

  • To undertake relevant Continuing Professional Development activities both as required for the purposes of PWP registration as per professional body guidance and as identified through Impacts Professional Development and Appraisal System.

  • To engage with the required amount of clinical and caseload management supervision from a qualified PWP supervisor within Impacts Supervision Programme and in line with PWP registration requirements.

  • To operate within agreed NHS, Impact and professional guidelines and Codes of Practice.

  • To ensure a safe and secure working environment for self and others and to act as necessary within Health and Safety and other guidelines.
