Job summary
Applications
are invited for one of our two Royal College of Surgeons accredited Bariatric Clinical
Fellowships. Phoenix Health was founded
by Prof David Kerrigan, Past-President of BOMSS and the fellowship programme is
in its 18th year. The training is delivered by a team of 4 bariatric
surgeons led by Mr Shafiq Javed, a senior bariatric surgeon with over 25-year
experience in performing complex primary & revisional bariatric surgery.
Main duties of the job
Fellows are responsible for day-to-day
ward management and outpatient care of patients. You will receive training in all aspects of a
holistic bariatric surgery service (including MDT, outpatients and hands-on
laparoscopic training) and will be expected to take part in a bariatric on-call
rota.
The
post-holder will be exposed to a wide range of bariatric procedures, including
laparoscopic gastric bypass (RYGB and OAGB), sleeve gastrectomy, DS/SADIS, and complex
revisional surgery.
We expect that after completing a
12-month Fellowship, candidates will be able to independently perform gastric
band removal, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy surgeries.
Fellows will be encouraged to
contribute to our active clinical research programme and receive mentoring in
clinical research methodology.
About us
We currently perform over 50 bariatric procedures per month referred through our supra-regional NHS contract and the self-funding route.
The Phoenix Fellowship programme has a solid reputation for providing excellent, comprehensive training in all aspects of bariatric surgery and opportunities for clinical research, with recent Fellows being appointed directly from the Fellowship to Upper GI Consultant posts in major Teaching Hospitals.
