Job summary
Claremont Private Hospital is looking for a permanent Pre Operative Assessment Registered Nurse to join the team, working 37.5 hours per week. Please note applications for part-time working may also be considered.
Shifts will be during the day-time and are typically Monday-Friday with some Saturdays.

Main duties of the job
- To provide a comprehensive and robust pre-admission assessment service utilising advanced nursing knowledge, ensuring the provision of clinically appropriate efficient and effective evidence based care for patients, acting as a professional resource for other staff

- To provide a comprehensive and robust pre-admission assessment service utilising advanced nursing knowledge, ensuring the provision of clinically appropriate efficient and effective evidence based care for patients, acting as a professional resource for other staff

- To undertake pre-admission/pre-operative patient assessment in accordance with agreed protocols, establishing individual patients fitness and preparedness for admission and treatment, liaising with consultant anaesthetists and other healthcare workers
- To work in partnership with consultant users to ensure appropriate regimes of care for patients are implemented and ensuring that all requirements for the consultants patients treatment and care are correctly actioned.
- To prioritise, plan and organise pre-admission assessment work so as to achieve the requirements of the Care Quality Commission and all other best practice and regulatory requirements to which the Hospital may be subjected
- To lead and promote an environment where accuracy and customer service is at the centre of all work activity
- To proactively participate in the creation and maintenance of a safe environment, in which high quality, effective patient/customer focussed services are delivered within agreed standards, timeframes and costs
- To work alongside the other pre-assessment staff to ensure all patients having planned surgery are assessed to ensure they are in optimum health and prepared for surgery in line with nationally agreed and company standards.
- To assess patients through a variety of methods; over the telephone, from face to face interviews and through health check questionnaires, which the patient completes and returns to the hospital.
- To be responsible for liaising with Admissions and other clinical departments any issues identified at pre-assessment in order to ensure the patients admission to hospital is well organised.
- To liaise with medical secretaries and other colleagues to ensure patients receive comprehensive and helpful information regarding their hospital admission for surgery.
- To be responsible for alerting departments to patients who may require source isolation. You will be involved in working closely with the infection control specialist nurse to ensure our high standards/low rates of infection are maintained through highlighting and screening high risk patients prior to their admission to minimise disruption to the wards and theatres.
- To assist with the completion of NHS PROM forms, ensuring that all the pre-assessment documentation is completed correctly and managed according to agreed standards.
- To be involved in developing the Pre-assessment Service.
- To ensure accurate completion of all nursing documentation in line with professional standards.
- To assist in the control and requisition of consumable products, ensuring an efficient use of supplies.
