Job summary

Are you passionate about innovation and its role in health and care in the South West? Are you an experienced director with financial qualifications looking to use your skills in a dynamic and ambitious, impact-led organisation? We are seeking an enthusiastic and diligent non-executive director to support board oversight in finance, audit, and risk management.

Main duties of the job

Our Board consists of Independent NEDs, member representative NEDs and Executive Directors. Together they bring a diverse range of experience, interest and commitment to innovation and improving health outcomes for people living in the South West of England.

Our new Independent NED Finance will bring a diligent and collegiate approach to the Board by providing independent oversight and constructive challenge to the executive directors.

With our client base diversifying, our needs as an impact-driven commercial organisation are changing. We require an Independent NED Finance who is keen to support our ambitions with our partners as well as ensure robust regard for finance, audit and risk management.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities of an independent non-executive director are to:

Commit to working to, and encouraging within the South West AHSN Board, the highest standards of probity, integrity and governance and contribute to ensuring that the organisations internal governance arrangements conform with best practice and statutory requirements.

Contribute to the development of an ambitious strategy that will deliver value to stakeholders and ensure that the Board sets challenging objectives for improving its performance across the range of its functions.

Provide independent judgement and advice on issues of strategy, vision, performance, resources and standards of conduct; and constructively challenge, influence and help the executive Board members develop proposals on such strategies to enable the organisation to fulfil its responsibilities for healthcare of the local community.

Appoint, remove, support, encourage and, where appropriate, mentor senior executives, as a member of Board committees; contributing to a committee culture where challenge and scrutiny are welcomed and all Committee members contribute their skills.

Actively commit to the Nolan principles of public life of selflessness, integrity, openness, honesty, accountability, objectivity and leadership and recognise that these are the bedrock of good governance and to ensure these are adhered to throughout the organisation

Person specification:

Experience we are looking for:

Governance oversight of finance and business performance, and an understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of a Director of a company limited by guarantee working with a range of public, private and communities based bodies.

Financial oversight ideally ACA / ACCA qualified or equivalent, board level experience in financial oversight in a complex organisation undergoing growth, change and diversification.

Audit experience in oversight of the audit process for similar organisations.

Risk management - understanding of strategic risk management in all parts of business operations and finance.

Professional services - Experience of governance in a professional service or consulting environment is desirable.

Experience you will develop in the role:

Delivering change in a complex health and care system the realities, challenges and opportunities of implementing innovative practice at scale in a complex health and care system.

Improving health outcomes through innovation through our testing, development and implementation of innovative approaches to improving health and care outcomes in a complex region with a mix of rural, urban and coastal environments.

Influencing health and care systems through our work with partners at a local, regional and national level.
