They will be part of this specialist multidisciplinary team delivering behaviour support and psychological therapy to both residential and day students at the college.
Behaviour support in Beechwood College consists predominantly of a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model and the post holder will continue our close links with the wider PBS community around Wales, having access to and the opportunity to engage with service and governmental levels of service provision and strategy alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
The therapeutic provision at Beechwood College follows the Autism frameworks and guidelines provided by the Welsh Government and NICE. This includes the need for creative adaptions to therapeutic provision that make this an exciting opportunity for a Clinical/Educational Psychologist or Psychological Practitioner to develop their therapeutic skills.
We have implemented some novel and well planned adaptions to traditional therapeutic strategies, including adaptions to CBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, and others. An evidence based and model adherent approach is taken to all of our psychological provisions.
Main duties of the job
We are constantly looking to improve our therapeutic resources and regularly look to coproduce revisions of the materials with students.
Systemically supporting staff teams and engaging with carers and family members is also an important role with this team. We lean towards the theoretical ideas found within DDP and attachment focussed literature, including DDP and the House Model. Training staff in these trauma informed ways of working can really help the development of relationally secure environments that then allow the students to more easily deal with college life and learning. We need a clinician with an interest and skills in working alongside and supporting MDT staff.
The post holder will have the opportunity to work under the supervision of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist to provide comprehensive assessment and intervention. They will also have an opportunity to develop their own supervision skills, as appropriate, with Assistant Psychologists and/or Trainee placements
