Job summary

Robin Lane health & Wellbeing Centre is a GP surgery based in the market town of Pudsey. We have been providing a Community Ophthalmology Service since October 2008 and the service continues to grow. We are a professional and patient centred service and we pride ourselves on the high levels of patient satisfaction that we receive (99% of patients say that they would recommend us to their family and friends).

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team at Robin Lane Health & Wellbeing Centre, Pudsey, as a Eye Clinic Administrator /Eye Technician.

Hours of work will be between 35 hours per week on the below shift pattern and may include some weekend working with notice.

Monday 08:00 - 16:00

Tuesday 08:00 - 17:00

Wednesday 09:00 - 13:00

Thursday 09:00 - 17:00

Friday 08:00 - 16:00

Main duties of the job

To support the smooth running of the Eye Clinic working as part of a team to provide an excellent service to patients, ensuring customer queries are resolved where possible at the first point of contact. To ensure that appointments are fully booked and to provide an effective administrative service to clinicians. To support the consultant-led ophthalmology service in a variety of clinical and non-clinical tasks. To form key relationships with the lead consultant, associate specialists, GPWSI, lead nurse and other members of the healthcare team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Eye Clinic Administrator:

  • Dealing with queries over the telephone
  • Ensure all eye clinic tasks are actioned and up to date
  • Monitor and ensure that clinics are full and be proactive in booking any cancellations
  • Register and process new referrals on system one, from post, tasks or C&B
  • Supporting the Lead Nurse with the booking system
  • Typing referral letters for the hospital from dictated tapes, raising IPT and sending to hospital
  • Complete notification of attendances
  • Scanning onto patients records
  • Book interpreters if required
  • Monitor, replenish and order waiting room leaflets
  • Updating patient survey results
  • Monitor and order stationery items as required

Eye Technician:

Interview patients and document ocular and medical histories, maintaining accurate patient medical records

Take responsibility for the development, maintenance and utilisation of the clinical system eye template, including those working for the post holder

Take responsibility for the safe movement of all clinical records

Perform a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information including, but not limited to, visual fields and OCT

Perform pressure testing using Reichert Tonometer

Assist the Consultant during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, including instrumentation, sterile preparations and documentation

Administer topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by for testing or treatment

Prepare and position patient for diagnostic tests and procedures. This may require moving or manoeuvre patients to do so

Assist the Consultant / GPWSI with patient education pertaining to the treatment prescribed

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct, at all times

To attend mandatory training such as Health and Safety, Fire or Resuscitation

To attend any Practice Meetings as necessary

Preparing the clinic rooms prior to clinics and ensuring rooms are fully stocked

To be part of a team delivering safe quality care for patients during their ophthalmic appointment

Reporting untoward incidents taking an active role in patient safety issues and quality risk and assessment

Ensuring all equipment is clean and well maintained and reporting any problems to the Lead Nurse
