Respiratory Senior Healthcare Assistant

Job summary

We are looking for a compassionate and committed Respiratory Senior Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our Extended Hours Hubs in Tower Hamlets. This role involves supporting the clinical team in delivering high-quality care to our diverse local population, with a focus on respiratory health and long-term conditions.

You will work under the supervision of senior nurses or GPs and follow established Care Group protocols. Some tasks, such as phlebotomy, may be carried out independently once training and competency assessments are completed. You will also help run specialist clinics and provide preventative care and health education.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will make professionally decisions, providing safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, individualised patient care. To include.

  • Respiratory Checks Performing Spiro/Feno and Interpretation
  • Health Checks
  • Blood Pressure, Height, Weight, BMI
  • NHS Health Checks including referrals.
  • Referrals to health trainers, docspot and other community-based services

To be responsible and accountable for the safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care for all patients. To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code.

Directly responsible for ensuring that clinical, professional and cleanliness standards are maintained

To ensure effective communication internally and externally, regarding patient care and resources

To ensure that agreed quality standards are set and continually monitored. Lead, educate and encourage patients in required test techniques, explaining the need for full co-operation and maximum effort in performing Lung Function tests by demonstrating the same physical effort and enthusiasm.

Obtain reproducible and clinically meaningful results, acknowledging when to reject poor measurements and technical errors to gain the best and most accurate results.

To put patients at ease and minimise their distress by adapting language/behaviour/procedures to suit the patient, particular needs regarding ethnicity, mental or physical disabilities.

Communications and Relationships Greet and receive patients, carers, and other visitors to the department in a courteous and compassionate manner, acting as a contact point for patients and carers so that they are informed and provided with help appropriate to their needs.

Ensure professional, effective, and honest communication with staff, patients, relatives and carers of all cultures and backgrounds taking into consideration level of understanding to ensure individualised patient focused care.

Address any issues regarding care/concerns raised by patients and families as they occur and escalate concerns you are unable to resolve to the most appropriate person.

Encourage relatives/carers to take an active interest in the welfare and care of the patient, promoting self-care where possible.

Ensure all documentation and record keeping is accurate, legible, and completed in a timely manner, in accordance with NMC Code and local policy.

Working under direct supervision of the senior nurses or GPs working in the Extended Hours Hubs and strictly in accordance with Care Group protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the clinical team with the delivery of health care.
