Job summary
We have a temporary role as Operations Manager (Lead for Widening Participation). The postholder will be responsible for leading the organisations Widening Participation (WP) activities supporting target groups, developing and delivering a range of bespoke programmes designed to widen access to higher education & careers in a Health and Social Care. This includes the delivery of a NEL wide work experience programme in Primary Care.
The Care Group Training Unit is a localised model for the planning and delivery of education and training for the health and social care workforce within the community. it focuses on providing high quality education services to local, regional and national clients.
The GP Care Group are committed to improving representation in the local workforce.
Salary £44,000 pa pro-rata.
This is a fixed term contract until August 2026 with the potential to be extended. Hours are 22.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will be responsible for delivering key projects supporting its widening participation programme.
- This would include working with education institutes including local schools, colleges and universities as well as local employers to address inequalities in our local health and care workforce.
- The role will mobilise initiatives to improve prospects of young people in the community access higher education, improve employability, and access to employment through routes such as apprenticeships.
- The role will also contribute towards the operational management of the services CPD programme delivery including monthly Protect Learning Time Programme for Primary Care workforce and the annual training plan supporting workforce development of Clinical and Non clinical staff. The role will provide line management for the Events Coordinator role.

- The post holder will be the operational lead within the organisation for an assigned outreach strand of the organisations access and participation strategy, running outreach programmes aimed at specific groups of students from under-represented groups, and other key influencers, such as teachers/advisers and parents/carers. They will lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of a number of highly targeted WP activities, with a particular focus on widening access to healthcare, science and medicine programmes & careers in a Health Care.
- The post holder will be responsible for a varied range of initiatives with opportunities to innovate and develop new activities that align with the organisations access and Participation Plans.
- Lead on the agenda setting and facilitation of the both the Training Hubs apprenticeship and widening participation steering committee.
- Ensure all relevant service leads supporting Primary Care are supported in their understanding of apprenticeship development pathways and enabling access to opportunities.
- Responsible for the management of the apprenticeship tax levy ensure regular reports are presented to the NEL Apprenticeship and Widening Participation steering committee and other relevant committees.
- Development and management of outreach programmes for assigned groups of students from under-represented groups. Planning an annual calendar of events and activities as assigned in the WP annual operational plan.
- Developing a range of programme resources and materials, such as flyers, guidance notes and programme handbooks.
- Work in developing and delivering workshops and presentations during programmes/ events, such as our collaborative summer schools.
- Support pre-entry programmes to higher education.
- Maintaining an accurate record of event and activity attendees, including the use of robust and legally compliant systems and processes to collect, store and use data relating to outreach participants - Regularly reporting on operational progress towards an identified set of measurable objectives and KPIs for outreach activity.
- Work with the Training Hubs Coaching and Mentorship Faculty to improve access to programme for medical students.
- Managing budgets and financial records of all activities undertaken, including cost projections of planned activities and managing multiple event/project budgets.
- Regularly monitoring and evaluating programmes using agreed evaluation framework and reporting on outcomes and effectiveness, in order to refine programmes and to improve practice, in consultation with the Training Hub leads and other stakeholders.
- Liaising with colleagues and partner organisations across the sector to identify areas for collaboration and joint work cross-team responsibilities.
- Regularly updating the content of a range of generic sessions relating to information, advice and guidance for outreach participants.
- Contributing to the work of the organisations Communications and Engagement team, as well as Human Resources leads, PCNs and Practice Management in representing the organisation in Open Days, other projects/events, as agreed with the Training Hub lead - Representing Primary Care internally and externally, for example at networking events and conferences.
