Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to work in Waltham Forest in the 0-19 Children's Universal Service

The Community Nursery Nurses within the Integrated 0 19 Service Health Visiting and School Health and Wellbeing are responsible for the delivery of a range of programmes that support the outcomes identified with the Health Child Programme 0 19. This will include the delivery of the NCMP, vision and hearing screening with Year Reception and Year 6 pupils. Also, the delivery of health promotion mainly within Childrens Centres and primary school setting. Duties and responsibilities of this role includes:

You will provide community nursery nurse service to meet the needs of the 0-19 Universal childrens Service in Waltham Forest service.

You will be able to carry out delegated health assessments, screening of school aged children. Support child health clinics

Main duties of the job

You will be working within a skill mixed team of Team leads, Health visitors school nurses staff nurses health care support workers and administrators. And the operational management team

There are training and development opportunities within the role.

You will be supported by your team and the management team.

This is a role for a Nursery nurse who is looking for career progression and would like a varied working environment.

This is a full-time post which offers flexible working, however because of the type of role which is face to face with clients, in various clinical settings, a high percentage of the job will be spent in the office/clinical spaces.

Job responsibilities

The Nursery Nurses within the Integrated 0 19 Service Health Visiting and School Health and Wellbeing are responsible for the delivery of a range of programmes that support the outcomes identified with the Health Child Programme 0 19. This will include the delivery of the NCMP, vision and hearing screening with Year Reception and Year 6 pupils. Also, the delivery of health promotion mainly within Childrens Centres and primary school setting. Duties and responsibilities of this role includes:

Manage, plan and implement the delivery of the NCMP, vision and hearing screening for identified cohort of schools in a timely manner to ensure compliance with national screening timeframe.

Support the delivery of child health clinics

Undertake delegated developmental reviews and report back to Health Visitor/School Nurse

Making an assessment of each childs health in the cohort of school children in the designated primary schools, according to service guidelines and with support and advise from the School Nurse using Parent/carer questionnaires, teacher questionnaires and Health Visiting records

To review Health Visiting records of cohorts of primary school children and to refer concerns to the School Nurse

To review questionnaires from parents/carers and to check consent for child health screening tests. To refer concerns to School Nurse

To review questionnaires from class teachers regarding health of school children in designated primary schools and to refer concerns to the School Nurse.

To carry out delegated health assessments including interviews and report any concerns to the Health Visitor/School Nurse

To carry out delegated health screening of school children in primary schools in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and guidelines

To identify and refer to the Health Visitor/School Nurse any concerns arising from screening procedures or highlighted by parents or school staff

To make referrals to other professionals as agreed and delegated by the Health Visitor/School Nurse

To work with specific children and families in the home, school or clinic setting, according to their individual care plan as agreed with the Health Visitor, School Nurse or Team Leader. This will include children with special health needs, in order to promote inclusion working in collaboration with other health professionals, early years staff, school staff and parents.

To undertake follow up of children who have attended Accident and Emergency, as delegated by the Health Visitor/ School Nurse. Receiving notifications, agreeing appropriate action with the Health Visitor/School Nurse, making contact with parents either at home or in the school and reporting back to the Health Visitor/School Nurse. To advise on accident prevention.

In collaboration with the School Nurse and school education staff, provide group health promotion sessions to children and/or their parents in areas such as play, accident prevention, dental health, exercise, personal hygiene, healthy eating and positive parenting.

Assisting the Integrated 0 19 Team members in planning, organising and delivery of health promotion sessions and displays. This may include participation in school parents evenings.

To have an awareness of identification of vulnerable children who may be subject to abuse and to follow the organisations Safeguarding policy and procedures, referring any concerns to the Health Visitor/School Nurse.

To support students within the work environment to gain an understanding of the Nursery Nurses role within the Integrated 0 - 19 Service

To be actively involved with the ongoing development of the Service to ensure excellent quality of care is provided to all children, young people and their families within the borough of Tower Hamlets
