GP Care Group is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity within the newly formed Waltham Forest Family Hubs Parent and Baby Emotional Wellbeing Service. In partnership with the Family Hubs and the local authority, we are dedicated to providing a vital service for parents and babies, addressing mild to moderate perinatal and relationship difficulties.

This newly formed service is commissioned for a fixed term until March 2025 as a pilot programme. It presents a unique opportunity for individuals to develop their skills, whether through a secondment option from their current role or by stepping into a brand-new position.

Main duties of the job

The main aim of the role is to assist women with perinatal mental health conditions to care for their babies; ensuring that the emotional and physical needs of babies are met and to promote the parent-infant relationship working alongside the Waltham Forest Family Hub team.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, utilising their existing skills and knowledge to support and advise mothers in all aspects of caring for their baby.

The post holder will provide a service to women experiencing perinatal mental health conditions and their families as delegated by the perinatal clinicians/Service

Main duties of the job

The main aim of the role is to assist women with perinatal mental health conditions to care for their babies, ensure that the emotional and physical needs of babies are met and engage in activities to promote themother-infant relationship working within the Waltham Forest Family Hub team.

The post holder will understand the stages of development and assist where difficulties are identified andempower families to be confident in their parenting. They will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team,utilising skills and knowledge to support and advise mothers across all domains of caring for their baby.

The post holder will provide a service to women experiencing perinatal mental health conditions and theirfamilies as delegated by the perinatal clinicians/Service Lead and will participate in the delivery ofinterventions under the direction of the perinatal mental health clinicians.

The majority of interventions are delivered in a community setting most often in the womans home howeverthe post holder will be expected to work in various community settings including the wider community andassist the team in supporting women being admitted to or discharged from inpatient Mother and Baby Units.

  • Providing support and advice to families within a variety of community settings and in the home, under the direction of the perinatal practitioners/ clinicians.
  • Providing support that is empathetic and culturally sensitive to develop therapeutic relationships with women and their families.
  • Providing advice and practical support on infant feeding; promoting breastfeeding and responsive feeding and providing evidence-based advice on formula milks and complementary feeding where needed.
  • Promoting attachment and bonding from pregnancy onwards and support parents in providing sensitive and responsive care - enhancing mind mindedness in their relationship/s with their children.
  • Provide information, support and reassurance across a range of health promotion areas enabling parents to absorb and act on advice.
  • Assisting in the assessment of the health and wellbeing of babies and toddlers and to contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
  • Identify where babies and children are not reaching or may be at risk of not meeting expected milestones and take action, including onward referral where needed.
  • Promote greater social inclusion and enhanced wellbeing by supporting families to access community resources such as local childrens centres.
  • Prioritise care delivery as directed by qualified perinatal practitioners.
  • Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including reporting/escalating any significant changes in the clients circumstances that may impact on the safety of others.
  • Undertake timely and effective liaison within the Care Group and with external partners as needed to ensure safety and continuity of care.
  • Develop relationships with other professional groups including but not limited to; Midwives, Health Visitors, GPs, Family Hub workers and mental health services.
  • Work in partnership within a multi-professional environment to ensure services meet the identified needs of the individual patient.
  • Plan and manage own workload and contribute to organisation of the team and the service.
  • Take steps to overcome barriers to communications such as language or learning difficulties.
  • Support the training programmes within the Family Hub pathway.
  • Keep clear and contemporaneous electronic records.
  • Work in line with the Lone Working Policy and highlight any health and safety concerns as required.
  • To ensure that all statutory and mandatory training requirements are adhered to.
  • To access safeguarding supervision.
  • Ensure confidentiality in respect of clients and staff.
