Are you a newly qualified or experienced nurse wishing to pursue a career in General Practice? Would you like to work in a community-based setting providing holistic, person-centred care in a multi professional team? Tower Hamlets GP Care Group CIC in partnership with our local GP employers are delighted to offer either a 2 year or 12 month fixed term training post. You will be working within a General Practice setting alongside studying at City University of London for a Post Graduate Diploma (PG Dip) in Practice Nursing. Alongside this you will be supported by our pioneering Nursing Development Open Doors clinical tutors.
Our innovative programme has been running continuously since 2008 and we are proud to say many of the Open Doors nurses have continued working within Tower Hamlets and gone onto become Lead Nurses, ANPs and Educators. With many years of experience our educators will guide you through your journey into primary care.
Main duties of the job
Positively impacting the public health of patients and
residents in Tower Hamlets via vaccinations, screening, health promotion.
Providing care to those with complex and long term conditions
including physical and mental health problems, enabling them to stay well and
stay out of hospital.
Supporting families and carers who are caring for those
with mental or physical problems and distress.
Maintaining
and improving the excellent reputation of Tower Hamlets as a caring and
learning community of practitioners working in partnership.

About us
Tower Hamlets GP Care Group (The Care Group) was incorporated as a community interest company limited by shares in September 2014. Every general practice in Tower Hamlets owns one share of £1. The Care Group was formed to manage borough level contracts on behalf of the practices, deliver primary care led services and support general practices, and to be the provider voice of primary care in the wider health and social care system.

- The post holder will need to travel across the Borough and outside of the Borough for meetings and university lectures. As there is very little parking available in Tower Hamlets staff will need to be able to use public transport or be in possession of a disabled badge should they need to drive
- Residents of Tower Hamlets will need to find work in posts which will not compromise the privacy and confidentiality of themselves or family members
Qualifications
Essential
- Up to date membership of the NMC preferably adult nursing branch
- First degree in Nursing with either a 1st - 2:2 classification
- An applicant has been awarded a PgDip (Nursing) or a MSc (Nursing)
Desirable
- Evidence of assessment completion of a postgraduate module from an approved higher education institution
Experience

- Experience that can provide a good foundation for Practice Nursing, e.g. working with long term conditions or student placement in primary care
Skills and Abilities

- Ability to work without constant supervision but remain within safe boundaries of competence
- Able to demonstrate flexibility in practice to suit different patient needs
- Commitment to learning about new areas of clinical care and how to apply knowledge in practice
- Communication skills which can help the nurse to meet the needs of a diverse population varying in age, cultural backgrounds and economic status. Excellent written, verbal and IT communication skills
