General Practice Assistant (GPA) | Rosedean House Surgery | Part-time: 30 hours per week (full-time equivalent 40 hours per week)

Job description

Job responsibilities

As a General Practice Assistant, youll play a vital role in supporting GPs, nurses, and the wider practice team. Youll help prepare patients for consultations, carry out basic clinical tasks, manage clinical correspondence, and ensure patients receive a smooth, efficient, and compassionate service. Youll be patient-facing, organised, and confident using IT systems, with training and support provided where required.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties

  • Preparing patients by taking basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, weight)
  • Performing ECGs and urine dip tests
  • Supporting with wound care, dressings, and immunisations
  • Explaining procedures and treatment plans to patients
  • Arranging follow-up appointments and managing test results
  • Liaising with hospitals and external services on behalf of clinicians
  • Potential involvement in phlebotomy (subject to training and competence)

Administrative Duties

  • Processing and coding clinical correspondence accurately
  • Maintaining patient records using EMIS / SystmOne
  • Managing patient queries via phone, email, and in person
  • Booking appointments, referrals, and follow-ups
  • Sorting clinical post and preparing documentation for GP sign-off
  • Ensuring consulting rooms are stocked, clean, and equipment sterilised
