General Practice Assistant (GPA) / Rosedean House Surgery / 30 hours per week

Main duties of the job
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on patient care with administrative responsibilities, helping to improve patient flow and reduce GP workload all while working within a clearly defined and supported scope of practice.
As a General Practice Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting GPs, nurses, and the wider practice team. You'll help prepare patients for consultations, carry out basic clinical tasks, manage clinical correspondence, and ensure patients receive a smooth, efficient, and compassionate service. You'll be patient-facing, organised, and confident using IT systems, with training and support provided where required.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties
- Preparing patients by taking basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, weight)
- Performing ECGs and urine dip tests
- Supporting with wound care, dressings, and immunisations
- Explaining procedures and treatment plans to patients
- Arranging follow-up appointments and managing test results
- Liaising with hospitals and external services on behalf of clinicians
- Potential involvement in phlebotomy (subject to training and competence)
Administrative Duties
- Processing and coding clinical correspondence accurately
- Maintaining patient records using EMIS / SystmOne
- Managing patient queries via phone, email, and in person
- Booking appointments, referrals, and follow-ups
- Sorting clinical post and preparing documentation for GP sign-off
- Ensuring consulting rooms are stocked, clean, and equipment sterilised
