NURSE

Job Summary
To work as skilled member of
the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic patient centred
care. To communicate effectively at all
levels with the Multidisciplinary Team and establish good relationships with
patients and carers.
You will work within the
clinics, providing predominantly dermatology services to NHS and private
patients at St Michaels Clinic, Shrewsbury and Donnington Medical Centre in
Telford.
The main role will be as a
phototherapy nurse for which training and supervision will be provided until
deemed competent to work independently.
This post will also involve assisting
with skin surgery procedures and dermatology clinics. It will also involve seeing patients for
suture removal and wound review. Training will be provided for all roles.
Main Duties and Responsibilities.
Nursing
Provide high standards of nursing care.
To ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe
environment is provided for patients and their carer.
Act as an advocate for patient and family,
providing them with information and support and directing then to relevant
support services where appropriate.
To develop and maintain clinical skills and
knowledge to provide patient centred care ensuring clinical practice is
evidence based on peer reviewed best practice.
Undertake expanded roles following appropriate
training.
Undertake nurse led procedures, suture
removal/wound reviews/dressing changes.
Outpatient Procedure and
Clinic Nurse

The clinic nurse will prepare the patient for these
procedures and will carry out the procedure once deemed competent to run the
nurse led clinic. Post procedure the clinic nurse will ensure that the patient
is given adequate after-care advice and is fit for discharge.
Outpatient clinics:
The Nurse will demonstrate appropriate practice and
specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of
patient care.
Give appropriate written/verbal information and
explanation of management decisions and treatment to patient and carers where
applicable.
Nurse-led drug
monitoring outpatient follows up clinics
Assess patients response to treatment and presence of any
side effects. Ensure appropriate monitoring tests (e.g. blood tests, pregnancy
tests) have been carried at required times and that results are satisfactory.
Discuss any concerns with clinic doctor and ask doctor to review patient where
necessary. Issue further prescription from Doctor providing all is
satisfactory.
Assist in Minor surgery/theatre:
Prepare patient for surgical procedures.
This may include liaison with General Practitioners / Hospital anticoagulant nurses regarding anticoagulant medication and blood tests. Assist doctors (and skin surgery nurse practitioners) with procedures such as Dermatological and Oculoplastic surgery and ablative CO2 laser procedures. Follow clinic policies on documentation of procedures and drugs/equipment used in the procedure, correct documentation and labelling of specimens to be submitted for pathology. Ensure patients fitness for discharge after procedure and provide appropriate post-procedure information as required by the patient and document accordingly in patients notes.
Patient record keeping
Ensure
contemporaneous records of all patient contacts and treatments are documented
in patients Electronic records, maintaining confidentiality ensuring NMC
Standards for recording keeping are met
Professional
Development
1.
Takes
personal responsibility for professional development to ensure Life long
learning, through clinical supervision, appraisal and Knowledge and skills
framework. Actively engages with the learning and development opportunities
provided by St Michaels Clinic.
2.
Ensure
that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard and in
accordance with all clinic policies and procedures.
3.
Be a
member of relevant national nursing forums
4.
Participate
in annual appraisal to ensure personal objectives meet service and corporate
objectives
5.
Attend
mandatory training and clinical education meetings even when these fall outside
normal clinical duty days
Other
Travel between places of work
is a requirement of this post.
General
1.
The post holder
is responsible for adhering to all St Michaels Clinic Ltd policies and
procedures and the NMC code of Conduct.
2.
Nursing staff are
required to produce evidence of annual NMC registration to the practice
coordinator.
3.
Enhanced CRB is a
condition of employment.
4.
This job
description is a reflection of the position and is subject to review and
alteration in the light of future changes and developments following
appropriate consultation with the post holder and/or their representative.
5.
All information
concerning patients must adhere to the principles of the GDPR and new Data
Protection Act 2018, clinic policies and NMC guidelines.
With regards to The Freedom of Information Act 2005
any written request must be notified to appropriate management.
8. Infection Prevention and Control
The prevention and management of acquired infection
is a key priority for St Michaels Clinic.
The post holder is required to ensure, as an employee, that his/her work
methods are compliant with the Clinics agreed policies and procedures and do
not endanger other people or themselves:
All staff must be aware of infection prevention and control policies,
practices and guidelines appropriate for their duties and must follow these at
all times to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff;
All staff must maintain an up to date knowledge of infection prevention
and control, policies, practices and procedures through attendance at annual
mandatory updates and ongoing continuing professional development;
Any breach of infection control policies is a serious matter which may
result in disciplinary action;
All
staff have a responsibility to challenge poor infection prevention and control
practices of others and to report any breaches, using appropriate Clinic
mechanisms.
