Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you will be assisting Occupational Therapists, Nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual care plans. You will support service users to achieve their goals and access appropriate services, as well as maintain adequate records and enter details in the service user healthcare records. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have access to a variety of training and online courses to support your career development and growth.

Join The Spinney as an Occupational Therapist Assistant and change the lives of male patients with mental illness, personality disorder and/or learning disability/Autism Spectrum Disorder. 

 You will support the preparation and delivery of social and therapeutic interventions across a seven-day service for service users under the direction of qualified Occupational Therapy staff and in pursuance of the individual service user’s Care Plan.  These sessions may be linked to activities of daily living such as self-care, personal interests, cooking and basic educational needs.  They may form part of the service user's initial and ongoing assessment.  The sessions will promote relevant patient-centred skills, confidence and recovery. You will build one-to-one rapports with service users to encourage participation in activities and empower recovery. 

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you will contribute to the assessment, monitoring, evaluation, and modification of structured activities in order to measure progression and ensure effectiveness. 

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be supported regionally and will have access to a variety of training and online courses to support your career development and growth. 

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant you will be:

  • Assisting Occupational Therapists, Nurses and other MDT staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual care plans.
  • Supporting service users to achieve their goals and access appropriate services.
  • Maintaining adequate records, entering details in the service user healthcare records.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • GCSE/O-Levels (A-C) or a relevant NVQ2. 
  • Experience in a similar environment & Mental Health
  • Verbal and written communication skills

Location: Everest Road, Atherton, Manchester, M46 9NT

You will be working at The Spinney, a service which offer a range of care settings for male patients with personality disorder and/or mental illness. The purpose-built medium, low secure and rehabilitation wards, as well as a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) are all set within an 11 acre site with extensive woodland and landscaped areas. 

You will be working alongside a multidisciplinary team at The Spinney who have previously been recognised by the Association of Psychological Therapies (APT) for their ability to reinforce positive behaviour, prevention of challenging behaviour and successful interventions in a secure care setting.
