Job summary

This is a temporary Resident Medical Officer (RMO) role at Potters Bar Clinic and Rhodes Wood Hospital, which are part of Elysium Healthcare. As the RMO, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical services to patients, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring adequate handover, reviewing mental and physical health of patients, and providing emergency response out of hours.

Main duties of the job

The role involves an on-site bedroom with en-suite facilities at Potters Bar Clinic, and the RMO will be expected to be based on site whilst on duty, except when attending Rhodes Wood Hospital for medical reviews. The RMO will be one of the responders to medical emergencies and must carry a hospital radio at all times.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Are you an GMC registered Psychiatry doctor, with experience of working in Psychiatry as part of a multi-disciplinary team? If so, join Potters Bar Clinic and Rhodes Wood Hospital as the Resident Medical Officer (RMO).

As an RMO you will be delivering a high-quality clinical service to service users, attending seclusion reviews and escalated incidents within a timely manner, completing full physical health screen for new admissions, and working effectively with colleagues to ensure that service users have access to appropriate medical treatment.

You will have an on-site bedroom with en-suite facilities based at Potters Bar Clinic and will be expected to be based on site whilst on duty except when you need to attend Rhodes Wood Hospital for medical reviews. You will be one of the responders to medical emergencies and therefore must carry a hospital radio at all times

Hours per week:  4pm to 8am Monday to Friday and 24 hours a day on Saturday and Sundays. There will be a rota system of one week on and one week off. You will be expected to work 128 hours per week, followed by a week off duty.

As the RMO Doctor, you will be:

  • Delivering high-quality clinical service to patients.
  • Working closely with the unit’s multi-disciplinary team, including the On Call Consultant, to ensure that patients receive a holistic and person-centred treatment programme based on their individual needs.
  • Ensuring an adequate and documented handover to colleagues.
  • Reviewing the mental state and physical health of patients as per the hospital procedure.
  • Documentation of care/treatment plans on the clinical note system.
  • Ensuring that each patient has a full physical health screen upon admission including physical examination, and ECG and blood tests where needed.
  • To provide emergency response out of hours.
  • Taking lead with managing any physical health concerns that emerge during inpatient stay.
  • Seeking collateral history from other professionals and family.
  • Completing admission assessments and discharge letters as required in a timely manner.
  • Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients have access to appropriate medical treatment at all times, including referral to the local A&E Department if required.
  • Attendance at monthly clinical and managerial supervision sessions.
  • Necessity to provide out of hours input to Rhodes Wood Hospital (CAMHS Eating Disorders). Any callouts to RWH would have to be authorised by the On Call CAMHS Consultant. These callouts are relatively infrequent, usually no more than twice a week. Taxi service will be provided by the hospital for the journeys to and from Rhodes Wood.
  • Any other duties considered to be commensurate with the level of the post.

To be successful as an RMO, you’ll need:

  • Full GMC registration (essential)
  • Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams (essential).
  • To have had an appraisal within the last year (essential) and allocated RO.
  • At least 1 years’ experience in Psychiatry (essential)
  • Experience working as a doctor within PICU/Acute/Secure services/ED (desirable)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
