Job summary

This is a part-time position for a Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist at Thornford Park Hospital, part of Elysium Healthcare. The role involves working autonomously to manage a caseload of complex service users, providing psychological assessments, formulations, and both long-term and short-term therapeutic interventions. The psychologist will be an integral part of the Multidisciplinary Team, attending regular clinical and service development meetings.

Main duties of the job

As the Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload, delivering psychological assessments and interventions, and contributing to the development and review of care plans. You will work collaboratively with the Multidisciplinary Team, providing specialist advice and supporting the delivery of effective, evidence-based interventions. The role also involves providing individual and group therapy, maintaining clinical supervision, and contributing to professional development within the team.

Join Thornford Park Hospital as a Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist, where you will play a key role within a male Low Secure Unit (LSU). As the Ward Psychologist, you will be an integral part of the Multidisciplinary Team, providing specialist psychological input to a complex patient group and helping shape high-quality, patient-centred care.

In this role, you will work autonomously in managing your own caseload, delivering psychological assessments, formulation, and both long- and shortterm therapeutic interventions. You will attend regular clinical and service development meetings, including MDTs, CPAs, referral discussions and hospital-wide forums, ensuring seamless collaborative working. Your work will include providing individual and group therapy, contributing to the development and review of care plans, and offering specialist advice to support the MDT in delivering effective, evidencebased interventions.

Thornford Park Hospital, part of Elysium Healthcare, is an independent 143 bedded hospital set in 23 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Newbury, Berkshire (close to the Hampshire borders).

We provide services for male and female patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) who require care in conditions of medium and low security. Our service users, many of whom have forensic histories, require long-term treatment and rehabilitation and present with multiple problems, challenging and high-risk behaviour and complex care needs. In addition to the mental health wards, Thornford Park has a 14-bedded low secure service for male patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, commissioned by NHS England, a medium/low secure service for females with a Learning Disability, and a medium secure service for males with Learning Disability. We also have two Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, one for males and one for females, providing holistic assessment and treatment for individuals experiencing crisis.

In the Role of Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist you will be:

  • Autonomous in managing your own caseload, which will involve working with complex service-users.
  • Attending regular clinical and service development meetings, such as MDT’s, CPA’s, referrals, and other hospital-wide meetings
  • An integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team on Male LSU
  • Providing both long & short-term work, which includes being able to undertake clinical assessments to determine clinical needs & treatment plans.
  • Providing both individual and group work to the patients.
  • Maintaining monthly clinical supervision as well as regular line-management supervision
  • Providing clinical supervision to other therapy staff as appropriate and facilitating in the provision of reflective practice.
  • Providing both written & verbal contributions to the MDT/ICR
  • Supporting the MDT in the development and review of care plans
  • Offering specialist clinical advice including the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care within the service
  • Contributing to professional development within the team
  • Contributing to teaching as part of Induction/mandatory training.
  • Contributing to audit and research as directed by the line manager

  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist and eligible for Chartered status with the British Psychological Society
  • Experience in using psychological models and theories to address a range of risk and behavioural issues
