Job responsibilities

Ready to step up in your catering career? Join Badby Park as a Sous Chef.

This is your next step if you are ready to take on more responsibility, develop your craft, and play a key role in a professional kitchen. If you have solid experience, perhaps from a school or a similar setting, and are looking to grow, we want to hear from you.

You will be a vital part of the kitchen team, working 37.5 hours a week, making daily meals for our service users, staff and visitors. You will prepare food and help guide and train other team members.

Our calendar is full of activities and special events for you to cook for. From World Food Day to Christmas and Easter, you can add your own ideas and keep things fresh.

It’s a calm and pleasant place to work, where you can manage your tasks and take pride in making great food. This role also lets you get out of the kitchen and interact with people regularly.

Think of the benefits: great job satisfaction, getting home in time for dinner each night, and having two days off a week. It's the perfect balance.

As a Sous Chef you will be:

  • Helping with the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
  • Following good food storage and stock rotation practices.
  • Preparing, planning and cooking meals to a high standard, including for special diets.
  • Serving food and drink to service users, staff and visitors in a professional way.
  • Making food for conferences and events.
  • Helping with food cost control.
  • Following all ‘Safer Food Better Business’ standards and keeping records.
  • Always sticking to Food Hygiene Regulations and safety rules.
  • Taking charge of the kitchen for your shift.
  • Helping the Head Chef research and create new menus that are healthy and high quality.
  • Filing all HACCP paperwork correctly, like temperature checks and cleaning schedules.

You will need:

  • To be 18 or over.
  • GCSE English or similar.
  • City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) in Basic Food Preparation Cooking.
  • Basic Food Hygiene certificate (a must).
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene (preferred).
  • To follow HACCP fully.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) guidelines.
  • Experience in a similar kitchen (e.g., schools, healthcare, or volume catering).
  • Experience cooking for large numbers.
  • Some experience with menus, costing, ordering, stock and budgets is ideal.

Where you will be working: Badby Park, Badby Road West, Daventry, NN11 4NH

You will work with our clinical teams to care for people with neurological conditions, brain and spinal injuries. Everyone here gets person-centred care.

This is a specialist neuro-rehabilitation and complex care service with excellent facilities, set in beautiful countryside near Daventry.

The site is a historic manor house with lovely views, great facilities and a peaceful feel. It is easy to get to from Daventry, Rugby, Northampton and Banbury.
