Job summary

Feel valued and supported when you join our team as a Dietitian, working 37.5 hours atBrighton and Hove Clinic a CAHMS Tier 4 Eating Disorder Service, providing support for young people with eating disorders, and those with eating difficulties with other co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD, or self-harm.

You will also have support from the Dietitian Assistant as you work collaboratively with the service users, their families and the wider team to promote physical and nutritional recovery.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of the service, offering assessment, formulation and treatment to people and their families/carers. You will act as a key link between the nursing team, the catering department, leading on the management of the dining room and nutrition support strategies on the unit.

Brighton and Hove Clinic is currently collaborating with Kings College London and The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS) at the University of Cambridge in a Dietic led project to improve knowledge around NG feeding under restraint and dining room support. As part of your role, you will be actively engaging with the research fellow to support their successful completion of the projects and ongoing implementation of its findings.

Main duties of the job

  • Implementing appropriate nutrition care plans, considering; risks, stage of recovery, any co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions and cultural norms.
  • Keeping a weekly progress review and feedback to the multi-disciplinary team in ward rounds
  • Carrying out one to one nutrition counselling sessions to determine: eating behaviours, beliefs and attitudes about food and health, rationale for food choices, factors affecting eating behaviour and nutrition status. These sessions will also be used for exploring stage of change and to explore ambivalence and barriers to behaviour change.
  • Providing mealtime support: The dietitian will act as a key link between the nursing team, the catering department, and the MDT, leading on the management of the dining room and nutrition support strategies on the unit.
  • Delivering the Nourish to Flourish psychoeducation group, which is set up to help young people understand their eating disorders and critically explore their beliefs about food and bodies.
  • Taking part in one to one family support, helping families understand the complex relationship between food and health, as well as strategies for supporting their young person to eat at home.
  • Attending at professional meetings with external agencies
  • Conducting pre-admission screenings for new referrals while laying out the plan for future interventions
