Job summary
This Post would suit
an individual with some previous laboratory experience. Candidates
with no experience but with a desire to learn and work within a medical
laboratory environment handling patient samples and undertaking a wide range of
laboratory technical duties will be considered as full training will be given.
Applicants must be
able to learn new skills, be computer literate with accurate keyboard skills, be proactive, a self-starter, and well-motivated with a can do attitude
Due to location own
car is essential, as the area is not accessible by public transport.

Working hours will be
Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm, 37.5 hours a week.
Main duties of the job
Perform technical laboratory procedures,
under supervision, required for service provision in compliance with approved
department Standard operating procedures.
To receive specimens into the department from the couriers, add
them to the computer system and prepare them for processing
Microtomy of paraffin blocks
after training.
Perform special stains and
immunohistochemistry as and when required after training.
Prepare reagents, controls and
other materials for use in departmental technical procedures advising BMS staff of any deficiencies.
Perform routine daily / weekly
maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Perform procedures and tests in
a precise, accurate and timely manner, under supervision.
Use laboratory computer systems
to perform required tasks
Develop and maintain laboratory
and computer skills and knowledge appropriate to the post by undertaking
training and attending meetings.
Liaise with internal personnel
and external clients to resolve issues operating within your remit.
Assist with office duties as
required such as shredding, filing scanning, under direction from the office
team leader.
