Main duties of the job
Lead GP : Purpose of the Role:
This is a new role and part of our strategy to ensure our services are fully supported at all levels.
As the post holder you will be a dedicated GP who clinically oversees Sandwell within the Malling Health West Midlands Urgent care and OOH Portfolio.
You will work directly with the Sandwell Service Manager, Clinical Lead and the Sandwell team. The post holder will work closely with the West Midlands Clinical Chair and Director of Operations and have links with the Malling Health Chief Medical Officer to ensure quality outcomes are met.
You will be expected to provide evidence based clinical care to all patients who attend the service and undertake duties consistent with it, including but not limited to:
- Face to face consultations
- Provide advice to other clinical colleagues
- Support the service in achieving Key Performance Indicators in line with national standards
- Involved in site level clinical management
- Clinical Governance and auditing
- Clinical management of the clinicians working in the service
- Support and work with the lead nurse and service manager around in day-to-day operations
- Attend regular and ad-hoc meetings with commissioners and stakeholders
- Support with the investigation and response to complaints and incidents
- Promote innovation to make a difference to the service and to patient experience

- Ensuring safeguarding referrals have been completed in line with guidance
- Management and quality assurance of the clinical team within the service
- Effective clinical induction and supervision of the clinicians within the service
- Work with the Clinical Quality & Governance team to investigate incidents and complaints within the service, facilitating the dissemination and implementation of any learning
- Contribute to the monthly clinical quality reports.
- Support the management of performance issues within the clinical team, supported by HR as needed.
- Provide clinical expertise into quality improvement projects.
- Identify clinical risk areas in the development of new initiatives and work with the relevant teams to develop processes to mitigate that risk
- Work closely with the safeguarding lead to ensure good safeguarding practice across the clinical services.
- Work with the Clinical Quality and Governance team to ensure CQC requirements are met
- Work with other clinical leads to provide cross site cover where required
- Undertake other such duties commensurate with the seniority and experience of the post
- Support the Service Manager and recruitment team with any recruitment of GPs including, reviewing job descriptions, job applications and undertaking interviews, and approving any locums
- Engage with relevant Clinical Governance processes including undertaking audits to ensure compliance with policies and protocols and to identify areas of noncompliance and/or underperformance.

- Resolve/manage clinical escalations to ensure the correct application of clinical judgement, policies, and protocols.
