Job summary
We are advertising for a full time, Microbiology training officer, to support with the newly formed Sonic Training Academy.
This role will report to the Training Academy Manager and will be based at the Royal Free Hospital and remotely from home.
The successful post holder will be responsible for the creation and delivery of microbiology practical training sessions, workshops, and seminars. The post holder will also be supporting with completion of the IBMS registration portfolio, IBMS specialist portfolio and mentoring students.

About the role:
The post-holder should have experience working in a laboratory environment, be HCPC registered, with a background in microbiology. The successful candidate must also have experience with training a range of people in a thoroughly professional and organised manner, and experience with marking and mentoring for the IBMS registration and specialist portfolios.
The successful post holder will be responsible for the creation and delivery of biochemistry practical training sessions, workshops, and seminars. The post holder will also be supporting with completion of the IBMS registration portfolios and mentoring students.
The post-holder should have experience working in a laboratory environment, be HCPC registered, with a background in Microbiology. The successful candidate must also have experience with training a range of people in a thoroughly professional and organised manner, providing support and input as required to contribute to the smooth running of the training academy, as well as being able to effectively collaborate with other subject matter experts within the profession.
The role is based at the Royal Free Hospital serviced by various commuter links including: Hampstead Heath Rail (4 minute walk), Besize Park (15 minute walk), and Gospel Oak, (17 minute walk).

Job responsibilities
To create,
support and deliver Microbiology subject specific training sessions, workshops
and specialist content to trainee Biomedical Scientists as well as existing
Biomedical Science staff members.
Support
in the mentoring, marking and training support for apprentice students
completing the IBMS registration portfolio. Training to be conducted as
physical laboratory practical sessions alongside e-learning content.
Work will
be undertaken with autonomy and overseen by the training academy manager.
The post holder will be required
to work on a hybrid model and attend the Royal Free Training Laboratory for
delivery of training.
MAIN
DUTIES:
To include, but not be restricted
to, the following duties:
1.
To ensure
work is completed and a handover is communicated prior to leaving a section.
2.
To utilise
the subject mapping documents provided by the training academy and affiliated
university, in supporting the creation of Microbiology subject specific
content.
3.
To
support in creating theoretical content for practical skills sessions,
laboratory workshops and e-learning content
4.
To inform
the training academy manager or training academy team on updates regarding
projects
5.
To
maintain confidentiality at all times.
6.
To become
familiar with and proficient in the use of the information technology systems
within the Department.
TRAINING
& EDUCATION
7. To participate in training
for the successful completion of staff undergoing both IBMS registration
portfolios and also specialist portfolios.
8. To follow the agreed
departmental training schedule, and regular performance meetings within the
department
9. To participate in regular
training review which will monitor progress and performance.
10. To complete all mandatory
training at the appropriate frequency.
11. To
provide support for less experienced colleagues as requested.
12. To take an active interest in
and keep abreast of developments in the discipline.
