There is an exciting opportunity within Health Services Laboratories located at the Whittington Hospital, to recruit a Senior Biomedical Scientist for Biochemistry.

The newly formed Essential Services Laboratory (ESL) at the Whittington hospital is about to undertake significant upgrades to the facilities and equipment and is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior BMS to be involved in verification of analysers and transfer of service from the current lab to the new ESL following completion of the building works.

Main duties of the job
Significant experience of working in a Biochemistry laboratory is essential and experience of verification of equipment/assays, change management, and staff management would be advantageous. You will be part of a team responsible for the day to day running of the routine Biochemistry section and have the opportunity to play an integral part in introducing new methodologies and technologies and providing a service of the highest standard to our service users.
The post holder will have opportunities for further development, with responsibilities for quality and training dependent on experience. The department has an excellent training programme to develop staffto realise their potential and career advancement.
You will be working 37.5 hrs per week on a 24/7 shift pattern.

An experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead a team of staff in a section of the department with
responsibility for providing a comprehensive, high quality laboratory medicine
service to all HSL clients. The Senior Biomedical Scientist must use a
combination of knowledge, decision making, organisational and supervisory
skills to ensure that the appropriate testing is performed safely, accurately
and in a timely manner, on each sample received.
Main duties
1.
To co-ordinate
and participate in the routine processing of specimens; and to allocate work to
the other BMS and MLA staff to ensure a smooth workflow.
2.
To ensure that
for each sample the appropriate requested investigations are performed in a
timely manner.
3. To ensure that specialised and urgent specimens are
appropriately dealt with.
4.
To participate in the technical
work as required.
5.
To ensure appropriate maintenance
and safe use of equipment.
6. To
assist in the development of rotas in conjunction with the other senior
biomedical staff and ensure that they are operated correctly, and to liaise with the other senior BMS staff to
provide continuous cover from the start of each day.
7. To co-ordinate adequate supplies of laboratory
consumables and reagents and co-ordinate their stock control.

To contribute
to audit activities.
9. To contribute to the maintenance and development of
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
10. To be involved in staff recruitment for Medical

staff, and be actively involved in staff meetings and seminars.

attend courses and meetings as relevant.
6. To continue own personal and professional development by
participation in a recognised CPD scheme. To maintain registration
with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
