Job summary

Forming a core part of the Cellular Pathology service at 60 Whitfield Street, HSL-Advanced Diagnostics is an internationally recognised cancer reference laboratory, providing patients & clients throughout the UK and wider with specialist IHC, FISH and Molecular diagnostic testing services. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic scientist who will become an important part of our service.

You will be working in our centralised 350sqm state-of-the-art HSL-AD laboratory at 60 Whitfield Street, where we have a range of different staining platforms; including Leica Bond III, Leica Bond RX, Roche Ultra and Agilent systems. Our FISH laboratory is fully digital, using the BioView Duet-3 and Solo workstations for reporting. The laboratory is also the centralised testing laboratory for the OPTIMA clinical trial, using the Prosigna test on the Nanostring platform. We also have an extensive HPV genotyping service combined with RNAScope for high and low risk subtyping. We are also very shortly embarking on an ambitious digital pathology program.

Working in the centre of London, the service is located within easy reach of many transport links, being close to Goodge Street, Warren Street and Tottenham Court Road tube stations and also St Pancras and Euston stations. The local area has an almost endless supply of retail and food outlets, entertainment and cultural opportunities within walking distance.

Main duties of the job

HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with previous experience of IHC, FISH or other molecular methods are highly encouraged to apply. We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to progressing their career in cellular pathology and making a truly meaningful impact in the care and quality of patient cases processed through our laboratories.

Main Duties: To include, but not be restricted to, the following: 1. To provide a consistently efficient, accurate and world-class service to our clients and patients. 2. To produce high quality work and gain a deep understanding of the techniques employed in the department. 3. To perform IHC, FISH and other molecular testing services as required. 4. To assist with EQA. 5. To perform batch acceptance testing of all new reagents entering testing services in the laboratory and to assist Section Leads in analysing and trending data generated. 6. To assist in method development as required. 7. To produce high quality histological sections, stained by H&E, IHC and FISH techniques, and also to provide various microtomy techniques to support all molecular pathology requests coming through the department. 8. To participate in all rotas as required. 9. To operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to departmental and manufacturers protocols and procedures. 10. To ensure agreed standards for turnaround times of samples and results are met. 11. To be familiar with and proficient in the use of the information technology systems within the Department. 12. To participate in departmental meetings and contribute to effective communication within the Department. 13. To assist in planning ones own work and that of other staff within a section.
