Job summary
A Permanent Full time position has arisen within the Cytogenetics department of TDL/HSL for applicants with technical and/or analytical cytogenetic experience.
Main duties of the job
This position is offered within the constitutional section which performs G-band chromosome analysis, FISH and Microarrays on a range of sample types including postnatal bloods, fetal bloods, amniocentesis, CVS and product of conception.
You would work alongside a team of scientists with a broad range of experience who are dedicated to providing a high quality diagnostic service where the patient always comes first.
Requirements for the post include the ability to work as part of a team, follow standard procedures, the ability to concentrate for long periods of time, adaptability to undertake a range of different tasks, manual dexterity, computer literacy, ability to work diligently and conscientiously within given time constraints.
The salary offered will be commensurate with experience & qualifications.

Main Duties:
To include, but not be restricted to, the following duties:
1. To carry out any technical/administrative duties required in the Prenatal, Postnatal laboratories and/or analysis section under the direction of the department managers.
2. To be responsible for the organisation and performance of clinical laboratory tests within target deadlines as determined by HSL/TDL Genetics, ensuring that all procedures meet the required standards and processing all assigned work within the established guidelines.
3. If required, to train in cytogenetic analysis as and when this meets the needs of the company.
4. To take part in Joint Annual Reviews, to attend laboratory meetings, and participate in departmental audits as required.
- To take part in training sessions and mandatory training as required.
6. To be responsible for the organisation and performance of clinical laboratory tests within target deadlines as determined by HSL/TDL Genetics.
7. To undertake work in a careful and efficient way and in compliance with UKAS/ISO:15189 guidelines. To ensure that all procedures followed meet necessary standards (in particular UKAS/ISO:15189 requirements and the guidelines of the Quality Management Group) and participate in the creation of new procedures as necessary.
8. To contribute in ensuring continuing adequate maintenance, repair and safety of all departmental equipment.
9. To be aware of those laboratory procedures that include:
Maintenance and implementation of departmental policies and procedures for safe and efficient working.
Good housekeeping and technical working practices.
Appropriate maintenance of the relevant departmental stock control system and organisation of stock rotation
10. To protect the health and safety of departmental staff and ensure compliance with the Company safety policy and legal requirements under the guidance of the Health & Safety staff. To behave in a professional manner and cooperate with all other members of staff at all times.
11. To be familiar with the laboratory IT system as appropriate for the discharge of your duties.
