An opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC-registered Senior Biomedical Scientist wishing to work in Biochemistry in our UCLH Rapid Response Laboratory. The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the Biochemistry Service with an emphasis on training and development. We are looking for someone who is a team player with excellent technical & communication skills.
Main duties of the job
Working as part of a small team, this is an excellent opportunity to further develop your skills, knowledge, and experience within this biochemistry laboratory. As the laboratory will be run as a 24/7 service, there will be a requirement to participate in the onsite out of hours service.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a proven interest in training, with a view to taking staff through registration and specialist portfolios. You will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the provision of training and staff development to the biochemistry laboratory. Duties will also comprise the routine operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Roche analysers. Technical validation and authorisation of results and stock management will also be required.

Overall Job Purpose:
An experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead a team of staff in a section of the department with
responsibility for providing a comprehensive, high quality laboratory medicine
service to all HSL clients. The Senior Biomedical Scientist must use a
combination of knowledge, decision making, organisational and supervisory
skills to ensure that the appropriate testing is performed safely, accurately
and in a timely manner, on each sample received.
Main duties
1.
To co-ordinate
and participate in the routine processing of specimens; and to allocate work to
the other BMS and MLA staff to ensure a smooth workflow.
2.
To ensure that
for each sample the appropriate requested investigations are performed in a
timely manner.
3. To ensure that specialised and urgent specimens are
appropriately dealt with.
4.
To participate in the technical
work as required.
5.
To ensure appropriate maintenance
and safe use of equipment.
6. To
assist in the development of rotas in conjunction with the other senior
biomedical staff and ensure that they are operated correctly, and to liaise with the other senior BMS staff to
provide continuous cover from the start of each day.
7. To co-ordinate adequate supplies of laboratory
consumables and reagents and co-ordinate their stock control.
8.
To contribute
to audit activities.
9. To contribute to the maintenance and development of
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
10. To be involved in staff recruitment for Medical

staff, and be actively involved in staff meetings and seminars.
