Job summary

An opportunity has arisen in our Patient Services Department at 76 Wimpole Street for a Full Time Phlebotomist.

Working as part of our busy friendly team duties will include the collection of venous and capillary blood samples and body fluids and swabs from patients attending The Doctors Laboratory in accordance with documented procedures. There will be participation in domiciliary visits to patients and attendance at clinics as assigned by the Patient Services Manager or Team Leader.

Main duties of the job

There will be participation in domiciliary visits to patients and attendance at clinics as assigned by the Patient Services Manager or Team Leader.

There will be rotating shifts between 7am and 7.30pm, weekend overtime expected.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of Phlebotomy/Venepuncture experience.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To perform phlebotomy procedures and all duties within the phlebotomy department as assigned by the Patient Services Manager and/or Team Leaders. To ensure efficiency and excellent quality of service at all times. To comply with all relevant company and national standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.

Main Duties: To include, but not be restricted to, the following: The collection of venous blood samples, swabs, body fluids and tissue from patients of all ages attending The Doctors Laboratory, in accordance with documented procedures.

Provide care for patients who may be anxious or become unwell during procedures. Achieve and maintain patient contact in line with the local KPI per day following the probationary period.

Complete extended procedures and their associated documentation such as paternity testing and drug testing. Carry out domiciliary visits and clinics as assigned by senior staff. To partake in the Annual Joint Review with the Patient Services Manager or Team Leader, that will be scheduled annually

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 12 months phlebotomy experience, preferably in a private
  • healthcare setting.

Desirable

  • Paediatric experience desirable.

Qualifications

  • Maths, English GSCE at grades A to C or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy Competency Certificate.

Desirable

  • Scientific degree or background desirable.
