Main duties of the job

What You will Do

As a key member of our Decontamination team, you will:

  • Work collaboratively to deliver a controlled, high quality decontamination service for reusable medical devices
  • Ensure excellent standards throughout all stages of the decontamination process, supporting outstanding patient care
  • Accurately record information to maintain a full trackandtrace system, ensuring safety and compliance
  • Prioritise workload effectively with your team and internal clinical departments
  • Follow our Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System to ensure safe, consistent, and compliant operations

Job responsibilities

Purpose: To support clinical activity and excellence in patient safety by providing a controlled Decontamination Service for reusable medical

devices in Benenden Hospital

The post holder will:

Work as part of a team providing a controlled decontamination service, reprocessing reusable medical devices for Benenden

Hospital

Contributing to the clinical care of the patient by achieving standards of excellence throughout all processes of decontamination

Accurate recording of information to ensure a full track and traceability system.

Work with the team and internal customers to prioritise workload

Work in accordance with the departments Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System

Key Result Areas

To reprocess reusable surgical instruments and flexible endoscopes including receipt, disassembly, manual cleaning, automated wash-disinfection, inspection, functionality testing, assembly, packing, sterilization and despatch

To operate decontamination equipment safely and carry out routine daily tests as set out in the DS Planned Preventative Maintenance and periodic testing schedule

Use of electronic tracking and traceability system

To plan and prioritise workload with consideration to the DS team and the needs of the internal customer and patients

The reporting of resource issues to Deputy DS Manager or DS Manager

Accurate and timely reporting of breakdowns

  • NVQ level 3/Technical Certificate Decontamination or equivalent level and knowledge and experience through decontamination training or willingness to undertake

  • Working in a timely manner while achieving high levels of accuracy
  • Be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs
