Main duties of the job

Our new General Manager will provide stability, strategic leadership and direction within the Orpington Centre and as part of our sister sites ensuring success across the group. They will role model our people focused values for patients and staff ensuring high levels of patient satisfaction.

As a suitable candidate you will be able to demonstrate strong commercial acumen and ability to lead us on a journey of physical and fiscal growth, whilst continuing to deliver high quality, innovative services. As the Registered Manager for the service, you will be responsible for patient safety and standards of care.

KIMS Hospital and LycaHealth operate over four main sites KIMS Hospital in Maidstone, Sevenoaks Medical Centre - part of KIMS Hospital, LycaHealth Canary Wharf and LycaHealth Orpington Clinic. KIMS Hospital and Sevenoaks Medical Centre provide a variety of private and NHS services. We have an overall CQC rating of Good, are AfPP accredited and are the first hospital in Kent to offer Mako Smart Robotics for joint surgery. The Orpington Medical Centre provides a range of NHS and private patient services. Our Outpatient Diagnostic Endoscopy service is JAG accredited meeting the gold standard for quality.

Job responsibilities

The General Manager (GM) is the accountable person for the Orpington Medical Centre (the Registered Manager).

In carrying out the role of Registered Manager for Orpington (OMC) with the CQC it is their responsibility is to ensure patient safety is maintained to the highest quality of care standards at all times and the clinic is compliant with all relevant external and internal governance requirements.

The manager will be responsible for the management of the minor ops theatre which is being commissioned during 2024 as well as the jag accredited endoscopy unit and imaging department.

The GM is responsible for delivery of the OMC financial budget, and is expected to bring a strong commercial, consultant and patient centric focus to the facility.

OMC is located in a prime location to capture PMI and Self-pay patients, many of whom may in the past have commuted to London. Giving consideration and bringing focus to capturing this patient group is essential for the success of OMC, and the GM will need to work closely with all colleagues to meet with goal.

Given the crossover in services delivered at KIMS Hospital and OMC, and the inter-reliance on each of the facilities, it is imperative that the GM support, foster and encourage close links between KIMS Hospital and OMC.

Ensuring that KIMS Hospital and OMC work closely together to support the complete patient pathway, and avoiding leakage to other competitor hospitals is imperative to the success of KIMS Hospital and OMC. The GM will play a pivotal role in monitoring and supporting this goal.

The GM is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for OMC, its management team and for being a role model, mentor and coach to the teams in OMC. With full responsibility for the Commercial development (including expansion of services) and profitability of OMC.

Lead the day to day and strategic operations across OMC; The GM is responsible for ensuring safe care is always delivered whilst balancing the clinical, quality and the commercial needs of the business appropriately.

The GM is responsible for ensuring all appropriate measures are taken to maintain, promote and safeguard the wellbeing and interests of patients, employees and visitors. They are required to ensure safety and quality of care are prime considerations in all decisions, actions and plans and continuous improvement is implicit in all activity, planning and learning

The strategy to continue expanding the network of out-reach facilities, is fundamental to patient access to KIMS Hospital services across Kent. The GM of OMC is likely to be involved in the ongoing identification and the rollout of new and development of existing sites.

Candidates who do not have this experience will need to demonstrate that they have a good understanding of the needs of the Registered Manager role, and will need to show relevant experience and skills.
