Job summary

KIMS Hospital is the largest independent private hospital in Kent. It is situated in Maidstone and treats privately insured, self-funding and NHS patients.  We are seeking a caring and dynamic Imaging Assistant to join our Nuclear Medicine Department.  You will provide an excellent standard of patient centred care at all times whilst assisting our Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Nuclear Medicine is a medical specialty that uses radioactive tracers (radiopharmaceuticals) to assess bodily functions and to diagnose and treat disease. Diagnostic nuclear medicine relies heavily on imaging techniques that measure cellular function and physiology.  As an Imaging Assistant you will work closely with the Nuclear Medicine technologist assisting in procedures and proving support for the patients.

The Imaging Department offers diagnostics across a wide range of specialties including gastroenterology, neurology, gynaecology, breast, orthopaedics, oncology, urology and cardiology. We are a progressive department, fully committed to staff training and development.

This role is suitable for anyone who has previously worked in a health care environment as a Care Support Worker, Health Care Assistant, Clinical Support Worker, Imaging Assistant or Nursing Assistant. 

Main duties of the job

  • Assist Nuclear Medicine Technologist/Radiographer in daily running of Nuclear Medicine service.
  • Escorting patients to and from the changing rooms and in and out of the scanner room.
  • Perform cannulation where required.
  • Positioning of patients under the supervision of the nuclear medicine technologist
  • Perform clinical audits, including daily contamination monitoring of the department
  • Prepare injection and scanning rooms for daily procedures.
  • Use Compucare, the Radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving computer system (PACS) safely, correctly and confidently, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Willing to undertake phlebotomy and cannulation
  • Make sure room and equipment are tidy and cleaned prior use and after finished and well stocked up.
