Job summary

Bloomfield Medical Ltd are looking to recruit experienced Health Care Assistants to join our existing team. The post holder will be expected to work across all of our sites and in the various services delivered by Bloomfield Medical Ltd between the hours of 8am-10pm 7 days a week including Bank Holidays.

Sites of work will include, the Blackpool Urgent Treatment Centre, and Blackpool Victoria Urgent Care Centre at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust where they will assist with the deflections from A/E and the DVT service.

The Extended Access Service also operates out of Whitegate Drive Health Centre. The post holder will be expected to rotate to work in this service which will be open weekends 8am-8pm and weekday evenings 6.30pm 8pm.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake a range of clinical duties including venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs, ear syringing, wound care, observations, and applying plaster of paris to patients with fractures and personal care to patients.

The post holder will also contribute to administrative and housekeeping duties within the service locations.

If you are an experienced Health Care Assistant with an NVQ Certificate or Diploma in Health and Social Care (Level 3) or equivalent, with a passion to deliver high quality care in a fast moving environment we would love to hear from you.

About us

Blackpool Urgent Treatment Centre is an open access service delivered by Bloomfield Medical Ltd and is based in the Health Centre on Whitegate Drive. The Urgent Treatment Centre aims to deliver convenient accessible primary care services and is open every day of the year from 8am to 8pm. Whitegate Drive Health Centre will be the main base of work however, you may be required to work across Blackpool Victoria Urgent Treatment Centre.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Post holder will ensure prompt reporting of any relevant information regarding patients including observation of progress or deterioration in the patients condition to the trained staff.

Endeavour to maintain good standards of communication both in written and oral form.

Make entries on patient charts to record clinical interventions.

Make entries in the clinical notes using the service areas computer programmes ADASTRA and EMIS

Complete associated documents to accompany specimens using Cyberlab where available and label specimens.

Communicate with patients and carers in a polite and pleasant manner.

Receive and deliver patient related information to and from other departments via the telephone.

Acknowledge and accommodate barriers to communication and understanding including speech, hearing, language and emotion.

May be required to encourage patients to comply with programmes of care.

Ensure patients well-being by accurately monitoring, recording and reporting variations in vital signs of patients in their care to the qualified Nurse.

Initiate emergency action when required

Obtain and dispatch specimens on request.

Assist and support clients within all the services as necessary.

Undertake routine clerical duties eg. answering the telephone, taking messages, filing, photocopying, and dealing with queries.

Assist in the ordering and supplying of materials and equipment eg. stores after authorisation by the Clinical Lead

Inform the Clinical Lead of any untoward incidents eg. falls, verbal aggression, criminal damage.

Take responsibility for the cleaning and stocking of clinical areas

Dispose of clinical waste in a safe manner

Contribute to infection control measures by adhering to infection control policies/procedures
