Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse- BANK

Job summary

Seeking Pre-operative Assessment RN's to cover our pre-assessment clinics which operate Monday - Friday 07:30-20:00, 07:30-17:00 or 09:00-17:00.

  • Organise and participate in the delivery of high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
  • Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments in a clinic based setting
  • Perform clinical observations such as, auscultation, blood pressure, 12 lead ECGs, blood tests, and other relevant investigations.
  • Identify and escalate any concerns regarding a patients fitness for surgery.
  • Provide clear pre-operative advice and information to patients and their families.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure a seamless patient journey.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in line with KPH policies

Main duties of the job

  • Take regular responsibility to carry out required planned, direct patient care to a high standard without direct supervision in accordance with established nursing procedures and policies.
  • To report to the appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team any significant changes in a patients condition or situation.
  • To contribute towards health promotion for all patients by providing education, support, and advice, as necessary Ensure referral to appropriate professionals or agencies as required.
  • Ensure the safe ordering, administration, and custody of patients medication according to policies and procedures.
  • Where relevant to be responsible for and assist in co-ordinating discharge planning in partnership with the multidisciplinary team
  • Where relevant, responsible for the admission, assessment and preparation of patients undergoing treatment or investigations.

Duties Include Support the ward manager in implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received. Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient / relatives and carers. Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team. Contribute to the legality and accuracy of the patients care plan/ and or other reports and the effectiveness of the established communication /reporting system over the full 24hrs. Participate in regular ward meetings and attend other meetings as requested. Undertake tasks and procedures, in which competency has been assessed and recorded specific to the care environment. Provide support and assistance to the ward manager. All team members are responsible for behaving in a manner that does not put themselves, patients, visitors and other team members in danger or at risk in the clinical environment. Conduct yourself professionally within the standard and framework provided by the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) Codes of professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). To take charge of the clinical area as required, ensuring effective operational management of clinical area on a daily basis. Be an advocate for change, looking for ways to improve the value and effectiveness of care and services delivered. Encouraging evidenced based clinical practice. Actively participate in customer satisfaction surveys and satisfaction action plans, leading by example to junior members of the team. Compliance with KINVARA Policies and Procedures relevant to this role, ensuring you are fully aware of your responsibilities within these policies. Ensure effective communication channels are maintained across all areas of the hospital. To assist in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products. To receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the ward are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.
