Job summary

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join the STEPS team as an Assistant Psychologist.

STEPS Rehabilitation opened in May 2017 by founders, directors (and family)Jules Shiel-Boulger,Toria Chan, andRay Boulger. STEPS deliver intensive and ongoing rehabilitation for people recovering from brain injury, spinal cord injury, strokes, and complex trauma injuries, enabling them to reach their full potential and to rebuild their lives.

Psychology is highly valued as part of the interdisciplinary team (IDT), and STEPS Rehabilitation is IDT led with access to two experienced clinical neuropsychologists, a psychiatrist and rehabilitation consultants. This post provides the opportunity to work with medico legal case managers and solicitors.

We have a dedicated psychology space, our garden room which is set in the beautiful STEPS gardens and has been created with input from our psychology team.

You will have good access to a range of the latest of neurological tools on site as well as the opportunity to explore the benefits of rehabilitation technology such as the Mindmaze Mindpod.

All relevant training will be offered as necessary and further CPD opportunities are encouraged including conference attendance.

A significant degree of autonomy in carrying out day-to-day duties is expected from the post holder.

Main duties of the job

The post is open to assistant psychologists who have a minimum of 18 months experience in a private or NHS setting working with individuals following life changing illness or injury.

This post would suit those who have an interest in neurorehabilitation and complex trauma and enjoy working with individual from the age 16 across their life span as part of an interdisciplinary team.

The Senior Assistant Psychologist will provide high-quality holistic therapy to our clients throughout their journey as a key member of the interdisciplinary team. Their behaviour and work style will be aligned with STEPS values.

They will support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients at STEPS, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of the clinical and neuropsychologists working independently following a plan they haveput together and had approved by a psychologist. They will work within the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures.

They will supervise the psychological therapies assistant and support team members with clinical administration, conducting of audits, collection of statistics and with the development of research projects, teaching and project work as well as carrying out this work themselves when required.

Clinical supervision will be offered by one of the Senior Clinical Neuropsychologists within the team.

STEPS is a specialist rehabilitation facility, able to deliver high-quality care from a range of medical and rehabilitation professionals. Our purpose-built premises in Sheffield is home to a 23 bedroom, residential and day rehabilitation facility. STEPS has been designed to feel non-clinical, comfortable, and homely.

Rehabilitation

We have created a unique environment that enables people to access a wide range of therapies, specialist robotic and VR rehabilitation equipment, and medical specialists all under one roof. This includes access to consultants in rehabilitation medicine; spinal injuries, amputations, and pain management. We have an extensive team of clinical professionals, and the psychological therapies team includes two experienced clinical neuropsychologists, a neurologic music therapist, an art psychotherapist and solution focused hypnotherapists.

We believe it is important to care for not only our clients but their families too, we provide advice and education about their injuries or conditions. We work alongside other professionals and organisations helping our clients, this includes the NHS, solicitors, barristers, case managers, insurance companies, prosthetic and orthotic specialists, universities, and experts in rehabilitation technology.

To promote and monitor the accurate recording of behavioural data within the service, and to prepare behavioural reports for client review meetings or to supervise the carrying out of this activity.

To attend and contribute to client review meetings.
