This is an exciting new opportunity to work alongside our Specialist Neurologic Music Therapist to support the clients Rehabilitation journey at STEPS. There is a dedicated music room, with a baby grand piano and a range of instruments and technology to support clients therapy sessions. Neurologic therapy is delivered in groups, as individual sessions and in collaboration with therapists from different disciplines. This provides a wealth of different experiences to develop many skills with opportunities to develop within the role.

Main duties of the job
You will provide high quality therapy input to our
clients under the direction of registered, qualified Neurologic Music
Therapist. To work as a key member of the inter-disciplinary team with clients
throughout their journey in a manner aligned with STEPS values and behaviours.
The post holder will contribute to the aims and
outcomes of the service by providing support and assistance to the Neurologic
Music Therapist within the team.
The post holder will enable, support and assist
clients who are receiving individual treatment programmes which have been
agreed with and planned by the Neurologic Music Therapist.

STEPS is a purpose-built 23-bedroom, unique rehabilitation facility,
able to deliver high-quality care from a range of medical and rehabilitation
specialists on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. It is a unique environment that
provides rehabilitation to clients who have suffered serious injuries and
debilitating neurological illnesses.
STEPS has been designed to feel non-clinical, comfortable and homely and

worked in. Our specialists work collaboratively under one roof and clients can
access a wide range of therapies and specialist robotic and VR rehabilitation
equipment. You will be working within our interdisciplinary team comprised of Consultants
in rehabilitation medicine; spinal injuries, amputations, anaesthetics, plastic
surgery and pain management, physiotherapists; occupational therapists; speech
and language therapists; neuro-psychologists; neurologic music therapist;
prosthetic and orthotic specialists and amongst other nurses experienced in

- To implement and monitor individual rehabilitation plans and focused Neurologic Music Therapy programmes for our clients providing suitable feedback to members of the interdisciplinary team, in particular to the Neurologic Music Therapist.
- To assist therapists in treating clients or to work independently with clients as needed.
- To assist the Neurologic Music Therapy service in the development of resources for clients to support their rehabilitation. This includes administration tasks.
- To explain therapy intervention in a motivating way under the guidance of the treating therapy team
- Establish a relationship of trust and respect with clients which will enable them to discuss their issues in an open and honest manner.
- Work in a sensitive and tactful manner with clients and carers/family during distressing circumstances whilst being aware of their physical, mental and emotional conditions, needs, choices and concerns.
- To maintain accurate and contemporaneous notes according to STEPS standards recording client progress in the case notes.
- To provide support and guidance to other members of the interdisciplinary team, including the Rehabilitation Assistants and student therapists
- To work collaboratively with and under the direction of the Neurologic Music Therapist and other members of the therapy team in joint working to support the running of therapy groups and classes.
- To contribute to service development initiatives and promote high quality care for clients at all times
- To escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance and operating procedures
