Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and competent healthcare assistant (HCA) to become part of our friendly team at the Lymington Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) in the New Forest, Hampshire.

The successful applicant should be prepared to work either 8 or 12 hour shifts during the department opening hours. The shifts will comprise of supporting the clinical team with delivering a high standard of care for any patient that attends as a walk in. A number of the tasks that the healthcare assistant will be involved with will include wound care/dressings, fracture management and plastering, obtaining clinical observations and ECGs, and assisting with emergencies. There is also an added expectation that the HCA will support with the smooth running of the department with maintaining treatment room stock levels, ordering supplies, and covering the reception desk where needed. Main duties of the job

  • To assist the clinician team with key clinical tasks to ensure the smooth running of the department. This may include such tasks as wound care, dressings, plastering, obtaining clinical observations/ECG, fitting splints and crutches etc.
  • To ensure the department remains functioning at a high standard. This includes stores/medication ordering, monitoring stock levels, cleaning as part of an infection control policy, escalating issues to clinical/management team
  • To assist clinicians during emergency situations within the HCA scope of practice
  • To communicate effectively with all groups and diversity of cultures in a sensitive and empathetic manner, using tact, and diplomacy
  • To effectively and calmly diffuse emotionally charged situations such as distressed parents of those caring for the terminally ill
  • Competently manage verbally aggressive callers or people with mental health problems with an empathetic style
  • To have an understanding of safeguarding and the protection of vulnerable adult/children

About us

Lymington UTC has approximately 20,000 attendances per year.. Our clinical team comprises of nurse practitioners, specialist paramedics, doctor/GPs, as well as healthcare support workers. The service sees patients from all ages, and we are fortunate to have excellent facilities and an ability to manage a range of different patient presentations. As a department, and the PHL Organisation as a whole, has recently achieved a Good from our CQC inspection and we are immensely proud of the service we provide.
