Specialist Biochemistry Biomedical Scientist | Bushey | £46,225 | Full Time + on call

Spire Bushey Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist who specialises in biochemistry to join the team on a full time permanent basis.

Our pathology hub operates 7 days per week so you will be expected to work weekends on rotation and evening shifts until 8pm.

Main duties of the job

As the Specialist BMS for Biochemistry you'll have responsibility for the MLA pool, ensuring they are rotated into each section as required and there is adequate MLA staff in each section. You will also to support the MLA training and competencies ensuring they have the required skills to perform their role across the whole department.

Assist in the organisation, management and development of services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across a range of services provided by the laboratory at Hub Hospital and support the provision of pathology services for spoke site Hospitals

To liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high-quality service in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
  • Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens and blood.
  • Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area.
  • Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
  • Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
  • Promotes best practice in health and safety and security.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing services.
  • Deliver quality improvement with the department senior team.
  • Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.

Qualifications and Training:

  • Degree qualified, BSC Biomedical Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences (BMS) or related subject, or IBMS specialist portfolio
  • Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council
  • Minimum 2 years post registration experience

Experience:

  • Experience within biochemistry is essential, blood sciences / multidisciplinary would be an advantage
  • Working within a performance driven culture while maintaining safe standards.
  • Meeting financial and budgetary targets.
  • Supporting the commercial development of pathology services locally
  • Experience in a scientific laboratory.
  • Experience of independent sector
