Spire Leicester Hospital have an exciting opportunity to bring on a Healthcare Assistant to join their Theatres department at their hospital site located in Oadby, Leicester. It is crucial you come with previous experience and an NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care. Shifts are in the week with rotating Saturdays (around 1-2 p/month) with the option to take a Sunday on at an overtime pay rate.
Due to the location of our hospital, you must be able to drive.
Main duties of the job
The Theatre Healthcare Assistant is a member of the operating theatre unit care team appointed to support the Theatre staff.The role involves contact on a physical and psychological level with patients and, at times, their families.
The post holder will be responsible for providing high quality care and undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a registered nurse or operating department practitioner, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required.
- To undertake an NVQ in theatre practice level 2 and level 3.
- To support the registered nurse and operating department practitioner in implementing an agreed plan of care in association with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received.
- To be involved in the cleaning/washing of the theatre and accessories before commencement of list, between cases and at the end of the list.
- To maintain high standards of infection prevention and control within the theatre department, during clinical care and to assist patients to maintain their own infection control needs.
- To assist with transportation of patient to and from the ward.
- To assist in the safe transfer and positioning of patients.
- To undertake the role of circulator in theatre ensuring that the requirements of the scrub nurse and/or surgeon is met effectively and in a timely fashion.
