OVERVIEW
Unlocking Language is an independent Speech and Language Therapy provider, offering services in a range of pediatric settings.
This role involves providing speech and language therapy services to children in a clinical setting. The therapist will assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in children, collaborating closely with families, educators, and other healthcare professionals. This may include (but is not limited to) clients with developmental language disorder, speech sound disorders, selective mutism, stammering and autism spectrum disorder.
The role is based mainly in a clinical setting, with standard working hours. Some flexibility in start and finish times may be required in accordance with the needs of the clients. Some travel may be required for home visits or work in different locations. The financial cost of travel between clients will be reimbursed.

This role involves providing speech and language therapy services to children in a mainstream secondary school. The therapist will assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in children, facilitating their ability to access the full curriculum and engage effectively in classroom and social activities. This may include (but is not limited to) clients with developmental language disorder, speech sound disorders, selective mutism, stammering and autism spectrum disorder.
The role is based in mainstream secondary schools in various locations, with standard working hours (typically 8.30/9am to 4:30/5pm). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- 1. Assessment: Conduct detailed assessments to identify speech, language, and communication needs in children using a range of standardised and non-standardised tools and observations, along with case history taking.
- 2. Diagnosis: Accurately diagnose a range of speech, language and communication disorders and provide verbal and written feedback to parents, carers and/or schools as appropriate.
- 3. Treatment Planning and Intervention: Collaboratively develop and implement individualized therapy plans, creating SMART targets to address the clients areas of need. Use evidence-based practices to address speech, language, and communication disorders.
- 4. Collaboration: Work closely with families, teachers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to therapy.
- 5. Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary. Document and report on patient progress through written target updates and verbal feedback.
- 6. Education and Training: Provide training and advice to families, educational staff, and other professionals on how to support the childs speech and language development.
- 7. Clinical Governance and Professional Development: Engage in continual professional development to keep abreast of the latest research and techniques in pediatric speech and language therapy. Engage in regular supervision as part of professional growth.
- 8. Resource Development: Create and adapt resources to meet individual children's needs.
- 9. Ethical and Legal Compliance: Ensure all activities are in compliance with professional standards and legal regulations.
- 10. Caseload Management: Effectively manage a clinic caseload, including updating records, booking in sessions and completing required admin (e.g., reports and case notes) within a specified time frame.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelors or Masters degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
